A visitor in the community gardens.

The City, for all its steel and granite, is a pleasant place to visit in the summer. The warm light glints off of the skyscrapers, and the green spaces soften the constant sounds of the busy streets ( Read more... )

And Mitsuru has tried to dress as appropriately as possible for the City, although she can only guess what consists of 'true' summer wear here; but hopefully people don't find short sleeved blouses and knee length skirts scandalous.

"I'll just follow you, then?" She asks as she looks around the City again. That makes three times she's visited now, and it's still as novel as ever.

No one is going to mistake her for a floozy, and once they step out onto the street, she'll see that there are some women wearing similar clothes to hers. There are even a few people in (bermuda) shorts.

It's only a block or so to the community gardens. They appear like a green oasis in the middle of the urban landscape. The garden is divided into many plots, and some people are out tending their plants. The air is heavy with the scent of blooming flowers. Among the plants, there are a few cute decorations -- pinwheels and statues of animals, mostly. Beside the gardens is a lush green lawn, perfect for picnics or lying in the grass. A few trees provide some modest shade.

"Well? What do you think?" Sarah asks, excited and a little anxious.

"I..." It might take her a moment to find the proper words. Even with a staff that does have some gardeners in it, it's difficult to match the variety of the gardens in front of her.

Those strange spinning devices stuck in between some of the flowers also are drawing her eye. She's trying to figure it if there's some sort of wind powered, practical application the people of this world are using them for.

"I admit, that's a very impressive feat." She manages at last. "I've never seen so many different plants before. Not to mention those..." The name escapes her. "Strange spinning devices."

Sarah beams, the younger woman's reaction filling her with relief and pride. "All of the plants came from elsewhere, obviously. Some of them are enhanced. We don't have any insects yet to fertilize the flowers."

Not every plot is full of blooming flowers. Some are vegetable gardens, no less beautiful in Sarah's mind, with crawling vines and dark leaves. "Hmm?" She follows Mitsuru's gaze and giggles a bit. "Those are pinwheels. They're just for decoration. They look pretty when the wind blows through, don't you think?"
