What does the Avatar hope to achieve by accusing Amon of being a bloodbender? he wonders. He supposes that after the whole thing with Tarrlok turning out to be one himself, she might just be panicking and seeing bloodbenders everywhere.

And Amon as Tarrlok's brother?

It was simply too ridiculous to be true.

....so why were they keeping Tarrlok in the attic of the living quarters on Air Temple Island instead of with the rest of the benders?

And why would the Avatar spout off such an unbelievable story in public if she didn't believe it to be true?

When Amon removes his mask for the first time to reveal his face, the Lieutenant is relieved.

And then he realises that he has never seen Amon without the mask before. Nobody has, even among his allies.

I like his slow, creeping realizations. It just keeps on getting worse for him.

How long was he standing there, watching Amon bloodbend Korra and Mako? That would have been the icing on the cake...

Sometimes I just write things that can be summed up as "And then it got worse." Usually I do this for OCs (*pets poor, poor Hyo-sir*), but today it was the Lieutenant.

And who knows? He may have seen it from the start and been too shocked to do anything.

He may have just seen the tail end of it.

But he didn't do anything until Korra got debent.

Why wait until then? Shock? The knowledge that if the Avatar is debent, even if your boss is a bender, the organization will still have an advantage?

I think probably shock. Trying to work through in his head what the hell is going on, should I confront while he is obviously bloodbending people, what the fuck she was telling the truth, my god that's even worse than what Tarrlok did to me, et cetera.

That is a ridiculously large amount of stuff to take in! He waited until it had sunken in before he started yelling, and then went at Amon in the heat of his shock and rage! Which ended poorly for everyone except Mako, alas.

Ahhh, Kidlat. He was a Lower Ring boy in Ba Sing Se, the child of refugees. He has FEELINGS about the political/social structure of Ba Sing Se, and expressed his FEELINGS via graffiti. Gorgeous stuff, very poignant: There was one he did early on that has people outside BSS -- fully detailed clothing, hanboks and the like -- crossing into the city, accepting gags, and becoming stick figures as they passed into the walls before being stopped at the edge of the middle ring.

And then a serial killer started targeting the foreign-born girls of the Lower Ring.

Kidlat knew that the system would not give a fuck, so he took matters into his own hands, and organised two different tagging crews to put a stop to it. The boy himself wound up tracking and running him down, and had to be stopped by Dai Li before he killed the bastard.

The next day, he was invited to join the Dai Li.

So now he is a part of the system that he hates. :D

He probably followed right after Amon so he could help him fight...I wonder if the other Equalsists were close behind. (Probably! I think that they'd be able to find Lieutenant pretty quickly, given his proximity to the clusterfuck involved.)

The Dai Li? Nope! :D But he is brought in to help them restructure after the end of the war.

Or did you mean the steel girder Toph trapped him in? He did eventually get out of that.

Probably! Or he told them to GTFO just in case of Avatar State.

Yes! Better safe than sorry. They just sort of...stayed out of the way until things went down, and then tried to figure out what to do with the Avatar. She couldn't defeat all of them...

The answer to that question involves a lot of headcanon and fic. Short answer is no, though he is much happier with the new direction the Dai Li head in. And he still sneaks out to tag shit, because he is still a little rebel.

Alas, I do not! I've been slowly working on one that tells how he came to be Dai Li to begin with. Most of my Dai Li fic is saved for Hyo-sir and his daughter, Mi-Cha. >_> They've been with me longer than Kidlat.
