I was never really certain for a while why I favoured Lapras over other water types.  I just did.  Hell, Lapras used to be in my OC's original lineup, to be eventually replaced by Piplup and its evolutions.  I made the decision based on the rarity of some of her Pokémon -- she already had an Eevee and a Dratini.  To have half her team composed of rare Pokémon would edge her even more into Sue territory, and Jim is my Pokémon Sue, dammit!

And then I remembered.

The first Pokémon game I ever played was Pokémon Silver.  Among other things, I learned the hard way that levelling my Kadabra to the exclusion of the rest of my team was a bad thing.  (KAREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN)  While revamping my team to better take on the bastards, one of the 'mons I had was a Lapras.  I didn't think much of it; I kept her on because Sing was a good thing for me at the time.

So I trounced Karen on round two, and then went on to take on the others.

Then I reached Lance, who pretty much one-shot my entire team until Lapras was left.

With her ice attacks.

WHO'S YOUR DADDY NOW, LANCE?

So, Lapras is awesome.  And is even plotfully awesome in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky.
