I'm bored and having trouble getting my thoughts down enough for the Cyberpunk Meme right now.

So instead I am going to do a quickmeme!

Specifically, an OC Meme.

The rules are simple:

If you are born a Li, you will remain a Li.

Shang learned this at an early age, after his father and mother both died and his cousin Zhao came to take him to the main house. It didn't matter that his father had deserted, disgracing the clan; Shang was not his father, and Shang was a Li.

Shang lied about his age then, not out of any true desire to deceive, but in his eagerness to prove he wasn't a coward like his father. Years passed and he learned to fight, on his fourteenth birthday he enlisted as any sixteen-year-old Li should. By his sixteenth birthday, he had seen battle several times, had his arm broken twice by earthbenders, and killed his fair share of people trying to kill him

Whoo, I DID get tomorrow-fic! :D The matter-of-factness of the story is interesting as a parallel to the matter-of-fact way the Lis just move on after the war; I like that.

(Oh Li Shang, you're really cool, but I'm totally picturing Mulan's boyfriend when I'm picturing you. >>;;)

*grins* In my fanon, the Lis have been around for centuries -- the family line actually predates the Firelord's! By a generation, anyway.... There's not always a war on, so what's a military family to do? Adapt, clearly. <3

Mercenaries from the Li clan rarely have any trouble getting jobs. :D

(Seriously, it was! DX Or at least subconscious; I haven't seen Mulan since I was sixteen and I don't think they mention Shang's surname in Kingdom Hearts II.)
