Pernatar meme!

This is mostly for folk familiar with both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Dragonriders of Pern. If you don't know much about the Pern saga, I'd recommend you hold off on requesting things; if you don't want to hold off, I've buried some basic facts below the cut.

It had been a long time since Toph had left Crom.

She hadn't been able to do anything there, had been hidden away from the world because not only had her father apparently been a conquering jackass -- not that she'd ever known him, he'd died before she'd been born -- but she had been born blind. Lord Holder Lao had kept her, him and his wife Poppy, but they had also hidden her, fearing her Bloodline and her blindness would bring the Weyrleaders of Benden down on her.

Well, balls to that. She could make her own way in the world. And she had Topsk to help her with that, too. She couldn't see, but Topsk could, and Toph had learned to see with the watch-wher's eyes

Oh, Toph. You always have balls to spare, don't you? And whatever a wher is, I'm glad that she has one of those. It seems suitable.

Watch-whers are oft-maligned cousins of the dragons -- uglier, stupider, good only for watching the Hold at night, or so it was thought.

they're actually a good deal more awesome than believed, and pretty much the one good thing Todd McCaffrey has done with Pern.

Also they have heat vision, so that's how Toph sees. <3

I still adore the idea of Toph impressing a watch wher. Topsk, huh? Is that refering to anything in the Avatar universe, or just a name you came up with?

The ending line, again, was very satisfying! If you open this meme for more requests, I'm requesting more Toph!

Ohai! I'm dumb, I thought I answered this. >.> Topsk is actually from the canon names of whers -- watch-whers take part of their handler's name, and add a "sk" ending. If the wher is a Hold's wher, it takes the name of the Hold. The closer the wher is to the handler, the more of the handler's name the wher has. So Topsk was originally Crosk.
