A good night

So my night started out crappy, when I tried to log on and realized that my month of internet had expired. I tried to pay it, but it said my information was incorrect, so I wasn't able to get on to talk to my wife and check my stuff online like I usually do before work ( Read more... )

That reminds me. Tonight I signed you up for Bookman's Christmas Card and Book for the soldiers in Iraq thingie. You'll get a card from a stranger and a book. I'll see if I can get a specific book if you give me a list of what you want, but I might not be able to.

Working on others, but that's what we've got so far. I was in there and saw the flier, so I asked and they said sure.

Rockin'.

Uh, as far as books, I don't know if Kushiel's Mercy is out in paperback yet, but that's one I'd like. I'm also considering that it might be time to start on the George R. R. Martin Game of Thrones series.

Other than that, if you can sign me up for a preferred genre (Sci-Fi/Fantasy) that should be plenty good.

It's not out in "real people" edition yet. Stupid publishers.

Seriously.

Who, but book publishers, thinks it's okay to release products in collectors' edition only for the first year that the book is available?

I mean, who buys hardcover just to read? The only people I know who buy hardcover is collectors, like my grandmother did. She had an enviable collection of fantasy and science fiction novels, all in hardcover.

...yes?

I think so. I'm pretty sure I do. It's been a while, though.

I think you enjoyed it at my house. I eat a lot of Apple Butter, and I have a very vague recollection of either discussing it with you once, or feeding it to you.

You know, with *cough* scotch. Hey, can I mail liquor over there? I don't think it's legal to mail bottles of liquor anywhere from Arizona, but I'm not sure. I could probably sneak it past the post office people, but I'd hate to get through that far then get you in trouble. Do you have any idea what the regulations on that sort of thing are on your end? Either from the military point of view, or the Iraq point of view. I know some things are illegal to mail to the Middle East. My old company had some major issues when we had printed envelopes with male warriors on the envelopes, scantily clad. We sent a few over to that area of the world and then got a serious spanking in the mail about not sending "obscene imagery" to the Middle East on our envelopes...

It's also quite illegal for me to have it here, in a couple of ways.

As you've suggested, porn (or anything that may vaguely resemble porn to the Chick-reading types) is illegal. Maxim is the most explicit thing they've got in the PX, and it's in the "adult reading" section, with blacked out displays hiding all but the title.

Alcohol is similarly illegal. It's also just not a good idea, considering the environment and what we're here to do. I appreciate the sentiment, as a good scotch would be nice right now, but don't send alcohol.
