That's one of my favorite tropes--Person A lying to Person B and telling them they don't love/need them to protect them. It's similar to "It wasn't all a lie" when someone has to lie to pretend to love someone to get into their confidence or manipulate them. It hurts but it's a delicious hurt. :-D Poor Steve!!

Ooh "It wasn't all a lie" is a fave of mine too :) Though of course I headcanon that Person A only agreed to lie to Person B because deep down Person A just wanted to spend more time with Person B.
