It's late enough by the time Jessica and I finish off with Electro and Sandman that I don't bother swinging back by Betty's apartment, instead making a beeline -- or, well, a webline, if you wanna get technical about it -- for Stark Tower. With the adrenaline of the fight wearing off fast, it's hard not to let my nerves from earlier twist my stomach into knots; in the moment, it was great to get the heck out of dodge, but now that the reality of the situation has had a few hours to settle, I don't even want to think about what sort of welcome I'm gonna get from Mary Jane.
It was supposed to be impossible, her ever meeting my first wife, but in a world where a guy can get an array of spider-like abilities from a simple spider bite, I guess impossible's a pretty relative concept.
Trailing sand through the halls -- Jarvis won't be pleased, I'm sure -- I open the bedroom door, slowly, and poke my head in, wringing my mask between my hands. My expression is somewhere between hangdog and sheepish when I catch a glimpse of her, and I can only think the bruise blossoming around my eye adds to the overall picture.
"Um. Hi."
