You probably don't know this[1], but I'm not a big JavaScript booster. Me and the Johnny-come-lately, badly-thought-out, deceptively-packaged rootkit-in-a-browser are not close friends. Wait. You're...going to be writing...a compiler...in Javascript?

Your professor is a sick, sick man. Maybe once upon a time he had the class write one in PostScript.

Are you sure this prof said Javascript, and not Java? Because that's... kinda nuts.

Well, maybe not. It's basically designed around text, is readable, contains variables... I dare you to grab a book on compiler optimization and implement something simple like loop unrolling ;)

I enjoyed writing my part of an operating system, and similarly enjoyed implementing a simple compiler in Java a few years back. Even if I never used the tool itself, the insight into their workings was invaluable.

I had to write a lisp interpreter in ML, which was... kind of fun, actually.

I'm afraid I don't know any good death curses in Javascript, though.
