Letting go... or maybe not.

.

We had a big day at home last Sunday. A major magazine came over for a cover photo shoot featuring me, my house and my family... again. But this time, it's really different. I can't wait to see the final spread. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

Before the team came over I did some work around the house. Decided to clear out the ( Read more... )

I think it's wonderful that you set aside the issues that were representative of key moments...I wish I did that before I gave my magazines away. Although it made me feel "lighter," I have to say that once in a while I have serious regrets about it. I think I wouldn't have given them away too if I had a daughter (Lily draws lashes/insists on styling herself and Soph's illustrations are creative and thoughtful..so definitely, both are creative).

i know. they went back to storage. i made a deal with patrick. if he can get rid of half of his gi joes, then i can get rid of the vogues.

about feeling light - exactly. I did that two years ago at my garage sale. let go of half of my clothes and 75% of my shoes. i did feel very light. and i only kept the real special and essential ones. even if it meant letting go of some special ones.

lily has only two dress codes. "fashion" or "princessy." everytime we go out, she'll ask "what should I wear mommy? fashion or princessy"

How about storage bins. So you can keep them on a long term basis... or find someone who'll love them the same and have passion for them too... like me heheh jowk... it'll be handy for photographers and stylists bar none

They're not in the way. They have been neatly stacked in the aparador (in the garage), and in storage boxes. They're not even inside the house.

This has got to be one of my favorite posts in your diary because I love collecting Vogue issues too :) I've been keeping all my magazines and having a dilemma every time we're sorting and purging at home. Those issues you have are vintage, so neatly stored. I gave away some of the issues I had and some we sold at our garage sale. From hereon, I'm going to save upcoming issues and tuck 'em in the bookshelves. Very good post, cheers!

I'm also going through a purge. Maybe motherhood has something to do with it. With all the things a baby needs, I have to make space in our condo! But I can't let go of my InStyle (I'm not as chic as you, Daphne!). I've also thought of ripping out pages to serve as pegs... but it's like tearing up a friend!

The solution, I guess, is your solution. Build a bigger home with lots of shelves for the beloved magazines.
