Market day: Hobby-turned-business

It's no big secret that I'm fond of handmade things. I'm not actually a crafty person - I don't do scrapbooks and little projects. Maybe if I had time, I would. But I have a great appreciation for all things handmade. When I have the luxury of time, I like to browse around Etsy.

I've been getting a few emails from entrepreneurs who want to be featured in my blog. As you all know, I am juggling a lot of things at the moment. I am also starting a few new projects that will need a lot of my attention. I try to do everything from home so I don't miss out on the kids' activities. But we all know how hard it is to concentrate and get things done at home. This blog is one of my creative outlets and it serves as my personal journal as well.

As you may have noticed, I do entertain "advertorials" and sponsorships from companies and products. They know how to go about talking to me. But you guys know that most of what I write here is really from the heart. Yes, I get sent samples and gifts from people/companies who want me to try their products in the hopes of getting mentioned here. But even that is getting a bit weird. I like to post my own good finds and discoveries. And what do you do when you get sent a sample that you don't really need, want or find impressive. I know that this blog, like other blogs, is a place where some of you shop for ideas, inspiration and cool new products for the home, for women and for kids. And marketers are catching on. If you're in PR and you want your product seen here, feel free to get straight to the point and email me.

If you are a small entrepreneur, preferably one who works with his/her hands to create something unique, I am willing to help you. I know what it's like to start a little business out of a hobby. I've been there. When I was still hosting F, I came about discovering my patience for knotting pearls. I created these necklaces completely out of my own hands. They are indestructible, I made sure. I participated in a few bazaars, did well, but realized it wasn't for me. My friend Ingrid aka the baghag featured me in her blog and the rest was history. I then moved on to working with real gold and silver. And now another craftsman's hands are now working on my gold pieces.

I've stopped making these. "Inspired" by the Lanvin pearls. I strung and knotted each pearl. I got callouses and carpal tunnel.

Now since I have a soft spot for creative entrepreneurs, I am going to try do a Market Day every now and then. I usually do not welcome links to selling sites and advertisements. But during Market Days, I will allow you to post (in the comment box) a link to your site. We can do different themes - for the home, for kids, fashion, hobbies, gadgets, anything handmade, baked goods, restaurants etc. Since this is our first Market Day, let's not put any rules except HOBBY-TURNED-BUSINESS.

Go ahead, post a link to your site if you have a little hobby that gave birth to a business. Tell us about it. If I like it, I may test it out and write about it.
