make sure your plan is set on TIME mode and NOT the KB mode. The former charges you Ph5/15mins while the latter charges per kb so imagine how much you'd be charged if you surf alot.
Anyway if you don't want to get updates, make sure to edit the APN settings (I add 111) so everytime the phone attempts to fetch mails, it wouldn't connect. And when you want to connect again, just edit back the APN to the original settings :) lastly, set the FETCH option to Manual.
GPRS, edge, and 3G - these are just connection types/ speed. 3G being the fastest. You can still access the internet with GPRS connection but it wont be as fast as 3G.
You cant really choose which connection you want to use. It depends in your area. In Makati, most areas can give you 3G.
As for price, still falls under globe's rates; time: Php 5 for 15mins KB: .15 c per KB
If you like browsing while on the road, I suggest you avail the mobile surfing plans.
I got the lowest, plan 149 with free 10 hours monthly.
change the APN setting -- settings-general-network-cellular data-APN: internet.globe.com.ph.,then change it or add something like internetwrong.globe.com.ph. If you didn't change it, Globe will bill you a lot as in a lot :). Even you turn off all the settings and you haven't change the APN setting, its either a small circle besides the carrier's name or E will still appear which means it keeps looking or trying to fetch an EDGE signal.
