Michael Trevino does his best, and it's not awful, but Klyler really just amused me more than anything else. Sorry, Trev, but you just don't have that Klaus Englishman spark.
lol, no need to apologise? Trevino is a fine actor, but he's not better than JoMo. I'm sort of taken aback by people suggesting that he is, tbh.

Because the fact that Elena is saying that that best choice she EVER made was to fucking date a boy?
Yep. And like, I can squint and allow that this is a tragic and sad scene, and that Elena is pretty much saying this just because she's dying and wants to take ~comfort in her life choices, but. That is still fucking SAD, for Elena. When will Elena be allowed to recognise that she owes Stefan nothing? When will the show start allowing her to define herself outside of her abusive teenage boyfriend (for longer than 10 minutes)? When will Elena herself realise that she fucking deserves better? I literally do not understand how anyone could care about Elena as a character, and yet support this toxic codependent piece of shit of a relationship in which she perceives the entirety of her worth as a person on choosing Stefan. Any way you look at it, that is what "the best choice I ever made" means. Like, ship what the fuck you want, dudes, but don't handwave what it is. And what it is, is an abusive mess.

Or the show is making it canon ( ... )

It's these two fierce, strong, willful people, this selfish boy and this selfish girl, who have this love story hanging over their heads and are refusing to bend to it.
S O B B I N G. Can we please talk about how incredibly essential the theme of selfish desire is to this ship? Take Damon's flowery speech in the flashback about Elena wanting ~consuming love and passion and danger and adventure (which Elena doesn't CONFIRM but clearly finds irresistible). It's completely removed from the Madonna image of martyrdom and traditional living that takes over Elena's life after her parents' deaths. And if we do accept that Elena really does want those things Damon mentioned, then that MEANS SOMETHING. Because those things have nothing to do with what she can do for other people. You don't want passion and adventure and danger in order to fulfil a socially sanctioned role, you want those things for yourselfSimilarly, I find it interesting that when Damon says he wanted Elena to have the life she wanted and deserved (because those two ( ... )

Yes, everyone else can complain about his lack of faith and his pessimism and whatever, but you know what? He's right. We have seen this so many times on the show - you cannot avoid either transitioning or dying.

Seriously. I would have been so pissed about the special-snowflaking if Elena was magically saved.
