Just Touched Down in Londontown

Actually, I landed about 6 hours ago, but the sentiment remains. Anyway, I know I'm still horrifically absent from fandom, and that I owe all you lovely recap reviewers responses, because your comments bring me life, and they deserve all the love ever. But I'm officially traipsing about Europe, so I won't get to them quite yet. But know that they ( Read more... )

And finally you'll be asleep when I'm asleep! You take a lot of pictures, I miss British squirrels!

I'm in phone internet land again, so no wordiness will occur. I hope you can appreciate my lack of word vomit.

As for Hunger Games, I'm just gonna say: FINNICK ODAIR!

Huzzah for European time zones! And I saw several British squirrels today and thought of you.

FINNICK!!! I know you love him (as do I, obvi), but what are your reasons? Basically, I have been avoiding everything about Hunger Games for so long for fear of spoilers, and now I want to know ALL THE THINGS.

(briefly, because I only have 15 minutes of internet left for today!)

Basically, because Finnick is a master performer who makes a show out of himself to defend himself. He's vulnerable in a way that makes him really interesting for me.

Funny enough, when I was reading, I actually loved Katniss beyond reason, and Finnick was my strong second place. But Katniss' story feels kind of finished, if you know what I mean? There are things we don't know about Finnick, and I want fandom to give me those things. The Mockingjay left me with no curiosity about Katniss, but longing for ALL THE FIC about Finnick's backstory.

ALL I WANT EVER IS FINNICK'S BACKSTORY. I was hoping against hope that we would get some info about how the hell Finnick met/fell for Annie, but alas. I figured if I wanted it, it wouldn't happen, and I was right. But yes to all things Finnick. One of my biggest complaints about Mockingjay is that we got literally no wrap-up on Finnick's storyline (or Johanna's, or pretty much anyone who isn't Katniss or Peeta. Grr.).

Basically, I had Hunger Games feels. I'm trying to get over them.

Hmm... Hyde Park? The natural history museum? One for a sunny day, one for a rainy day. :P

Ooh, lovely. It's actually been glorious weather since I've been here, and I've been planning on reading in parks. Can't decide which park, though...is Hyde Park your favorite? I'm also partial to St. James's for the pond. Perhaps I will do a park tour of London. ;)

Mostly it's the only one I know! My knowledge of London is fairly limited.

oh my god you're in London I'm so jealous! I spent a semester there during school and ADORED it. ummm...fun off the beaten path stuff...

~do you do London Walks? They have some fun specialized tours.
~the Victoria and Albert Museum rarely seems to make the top of the list but it's great and it's free.
~Cafe 1001 was my favorite place to get some coffee and wifi time.

What are your thoughts?

YAY LONDON. Good to be here, always.

I skimmed your review and it was amazing, but I haven't had the time to properly go through it and I really need to sleep soon (lots to do tomorrow and every day...why is vacation so exhausting?). I will absolutely read it, because I'm still really confused and uncertain of how I feel about the end of it all, and I need to talk through my feelings. (And yes, Finnick Finnick Finnick I think I am shellshocked over the loss of Finnick nooooooo FINNICK. Also, incidentally, perhaps the most fun name to say ever. Finnick.)

THANK YOU, MY DEAR.

hello how are you

3. HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT MOCKINGJAY. It wasn't my favourite. I'm pretty dissatisfied by the resolution to Katniss's story. Which is a shame, because Katniss is my favourite of all the things.

Also, you should see the film (if you haven't already) and tell me your feels.

3. Yeah, Mockingjay is def supposed to be harrowing, but for me it was more like... it fell flat. I do think Collins did an ace job with the bleakness and depressing nature of like, everything, but the pacing was just strange. It felt like we never got an opportunity to really sink into the events. A lot of it was just rushed. And some characters (namely Katniss and Peeta) had a ton of issues that were never properly explored. Instead we got that tacked-on epilogue that pretty much skimmed over all the aftermath. WHICH IS LAME, I ENJOY THE TRAUMATIC AFTERMATH, I WANT TO SEE THE PSYCHIC BLOOD AND BILE ( ... )

LET US TALK OF ALL THE THINGS EVER. Basically, I am nodding along to everything you have said here. I feel like we might find a thing or two that we don't agree upon about this series, but the things you've mentioned are exactly how I feel (what a surprise). I was fairly dissatisfied with Mockingjay because I very much felt like it did not really wrap up the series. I think that I was ok with everything that slightly bothered me in the first two books because I knew there was still time to fix it, but once I finished the last book, I just felt like, "That's it? Wait, but, what about..." So that was not the best ( ... )
