Title: 5 Things Drake Bell Knows About Jerry Trainor
Author:
stttmsbwaRating: T/PG-13
Pairings: Drake/Jerry, Drake/Josh
Summary: Drake knows quite a bit about Jerry.
5. Jerry is really, really funny. Always making a joke. Constantly coming up with a smart ass response. When shooting a scene, there’s usually about three retakes with Jerry because he’s always fudging up the lines by improvising with his own humor. Sometimes they keep it, sometimes they toss it. And sometimes they have to take a break because the whole cast and crew are cracking up too much to continue the scene.
Jerry is a regular comedian. At dinner, he’ll make jokes about the menu. He’ll flip sugar packets into the air with a salad spoon. He’ll ask the waiters to bring him some Mocha Cola. Dinner with Jerry is always a laugh.
Even in bed, Jerry is still a jokester. “Time for you to go beddie bye now, little Drake. Need me to tuck you in?” It makes Drake laugh, although a little uneasily as Jerry pushes him into Drake’s bedroom. Jerry loomed over him, grinning his Crazy Steve grin. “Do you need help getting out of those clothes?”
And afterwards, right when Drake is always about to drift off to sleep, Jerry will always add some side comment. Sometimes it’s, “So how much do I owe you?” or, “Thanks, I needed a good workout.” Drake will chuckle and let himself drift into sleep.
What worries Drake is that Jerry even makes jokes in situations where almost nobody would, in situations where jokes should be the last thing on anyone’s mind. Like the time when Drake was sitting around the iCarly set with Miranda and Jerry, sharing some soda and just catching up. His phone rings in his pocket, and by the tone he knows who it is.
“Josh? Hey! What’s up? Really? Yeah. Be there in 20.”
Drake puts his phone away. “Josh is downtown. Wants to do lunch.”
Miranda coughs lightly and stands up. “Okay, see you later then.” She makes sure to get away as quickly as possible.
Drake turns to Jerry. “Sorry. I wish I could stay - “
Jerry laughs. “No you don’t. Go on, go have fun with Josh. I’m just the other woman. No need to apologize.”
He was right, Drake thought. And it made him feel unsettled.
Jerry was always making jokes. He was a funny guy, but sometimes Drake wished Jerry would just tell him what he was really thinking.
4. Jerry is really 31, acts like he’s 5, and thinks he’s 23.
Drake didn’t find out Jerry’s age for a while after they first met. What with all the make-up and Jerry’s younger personality, Drake had just assumed Jerry was 24-ish. Drake was 19, almost 20. There wasn’t much harm in that, was there?
It wasn’t until Drake and Jerry had snuck onto the Drake and Josh bedroom set, and Drake had Jerry shoved up against the thin, fake walls that Jerry laughed and whispered, “I haven’t done this since high school, and God knows that was a while ago.”
Drake had frowned up at Jerry. “How long?”
“Ten years or so?”
“You’re twenty eight?”
“Nine. Twenty nine.”
Drake waited for the nausea, but he felt nothing other than the urge to continue what he had started.
“Does that bother you?”
Shaking his head, Drake stepped onto Jerry’s Vans with his own brown leather boots to bridge the distance and resume the kissing.
Even two years later, after Jerry had hit the big thirties, Drake still didn’t feel uncomfortable. Jerry was who he was, and age certainly didn’t dictate that. One moment, Jerry will be trying to stack grapes onto his tongue in a mock-competition with Nate and Miranda, the next he’ll be dragging Drake to some underground coffee house where young twenty-somethings are sipping cappuccinos and having conversations about the newest Death Cab For Cutie album.
It seemed to amuse Jerry that he constantly forgot his age. “You make me feel young again, Drake. You’re like the fountain of youth. When I taste you, I lose a few years. So come here and let me taste you. I want to be twenty three again.”
3. Jerry liked clothing. But not just any clothing. Drake’s clothing.
“How about this?”
Jerry stood at the foot of Drake’s bed wearing only a pair of boxers and Drake’s black and white striped shirt. Drake shook his head.
Pulling it off, Jerry tossed it to the floor and walked to the other side of the room. The discarded clothes from earlier had fallen into a crumpled heap. Jerry dug around until he had found the shirt Drake had been wearing.
“How about this?” Jerry slipped into the blue shirt and turned to Drake. “Good.”
Drake crinkled his nose. “Eh, it’s alright.”
“Alright?” Jerry stood in front of the mirror and stared at his reflection. “Just alright? I think it looks pretty good. Like something Spencer would wear.”
Sighing and laying back down, Drake fluffed his pillow and rested his head against it. “No, it looks like something Drake Bell would wear. So just take it off and leave it alone.”
Drake heard Jerry laugh and then some rustling about. Next thing Drake knew, Jerry’s weight was sinking the bed and Drake was pulled close to a body that was no longer wearing a shirt or boxers. Drake’s pillow fell to the floor.
A few weeks later, Drake was watching the bootleg copy of the next iCarly episode. Miranda wanted his feedback. As he was reviewing the show, Drake inhaled sharply.
Spencer was sporting a very familiar blue shirt. A blue shirt with clouds on it.
So that’s where that shirt had gone.
And Jerry had been right. It was definitely a shirt Spencer Shay would wear.
Drake pulled out his cell phone and dialed a well familiar number.
”It’s Jerry! Leave a message after the tone!”
The beep sounded and Drake began.
“Hey, Jerry. It’s Drake. So I’m watching the latest iCarly and now I know where my blue cloud shirt went. I’m gonna want that back. You better come over again sometime very soon. Bring the shirt and be prepared to take it off. Later, babe.”
2. Jerry and Josh had a thing. A while back. During the Drake and Josh days.
It was purely flirtatious. Two comedians who aren’t uncomfortable with making a scene? It was inevitable back then.
Now? It was just really awkward.
People bring up the Crazy Steve skits around the three of them and Josh just chuckles and shakes his head. Drake shuffles his feet. Jerry nods and says, “Oh yes. Good times.”
All three men choose to not discuss the obvious tension.
So confusing really.
Miranda avoids them when they get like this. Drake notices. She always clears her throat and just slides away. Drake doesn’t blame her. If he could, he would too.
The worst is the really old video footage the crew took. Of Josh and Jerry. Being, well, really funny and weird.
It was the first enchilada scene. Josh and Jerry were both clad in their Premiere costumes. Right as Jerry begins to chase Josh, cane flailing about, Josh trips and Jerry launches himself onto his fallen figure.
“Now I’ve got you where I want you!”
And he bends down to kiss Josh, and Josh is laughing and the whole cast is laughing and Drake is bent over cracking up and every time Drake watches this scene he feels nauseous. Jerry helps Josh up and they bow to the cast and crew.
It was only an act. But still. It bothered all of them to remember.
It meant something in the bigger scheme of things. Maybe that’s why it made them feel so uncomfortable.
1. Jerry is very easy to fall in love with.
Or so Drake has surmised.
Jerry is the kind of guy that could make any woman and any man very happy.
He has humor. Charm. Intellect. Strong hands. This really awesome way of making a kiss feel like he’s crawling inside and stroking every pleasure nerve in your body.
Drake knows he should be in love with Jerry by now. Especially when he knows, he just knows, that Jerry may be in love with him.
The way Jerry always manages to make him laugh. The way Jerry’s personality makes it so easy for Drake to be comfortable and crazy at the same time. The way Jerry steals his clothes and then wears them around, like a proud boyfriend. The way Jerry gives him that look, the one that is usually followed by a search for an empty set and then wonderful, wonderful feeling.
With all these reasons and more, Drake should be head over heels in love with Jerry Trainor.
So why wasn’t he?
Drake knew why.
It was how every time he called, Drake would leave Jerry in a heartbeat. It was how no matter how good Jerry made him feel, he could make him scream and forget the world. It was although Jerry could understand him no matter what, he could finish Drake’s sentences and know Drake’s thoughts.
Drake would never be in love with Jerry Trainor.
Drake was already in love with Josh Peck.
