So yesterday I was out of the office and had my cell phone on all day (call me a Luddite, but I usually don't, because even though minutes are cheap now and I basically never go over my plan, the battery runs down and ... and no, I don't have IM either, get over it). I got three calls from a number I didn't recognize (so I didn't answer), but no ( Read more... )

I appreciate your comments about Earthtel. After getting pestered by repeated phone calls from this number that have been so frequenty it borders on harassment, I finally searched the phone number over the internet and found your comments. I thought you might be interested in the link below. It links to a report from the Secretary of State for Washington. For fiscal year ending Dec 31, 2004 (I don't know why it is not more current) contributions of $5,705,240 were received by Earthtel. Only $960,019 actually went to the various charities. That is less than 17%. I guess as a charity they are exempt from the federal "do not call" list. I am thinking of buying a phone appliance with the option to block (not ring) certain phone numbers.

Yeah, they are. And if the client has an "existing business relationship" with you (that is, you're already a donor), the fund-raising firm can say it has a business relationhip with you too.

Less than 17%?? GRRRRR ...

I wish cell phones had that. My speed dial list includes dozens of numbers (with a distinctive ring tone) that are there just so I can screen them out.

Oh well. Thanks for the link!
