I'm being forced to change my major.

I have to change it before I can register for classes next semester because there's a stop on my registration until I do change it.

Registration doesn't open until October...but there's nothing else I want to do. I WANT to be an anthropologist.

Yeah, saying I'm upset is a bit of an understatement.

Because of budget problems, they have suspended access into the program. And because I didn't meet all the required prerequisites (I'm short a few), I'm not formally accepted into the program and thus HAVE to change.

I'm trying to see what I can do about it now, but I'm not hopeful about being able to stay in anthropology.

Have you considered transferring to another school? If the program has any integrity, they'd help you find somewhere else to go if they're tossing you due to budgetary concerns.

I have considered transfer. Started looking at options last night after I found out all about this. And they did offer help in the LOVELY EMAIL that said I had to change my major...and that's what I'm looking into now.

As of right now, no departments have OFFICIALLY been cut. They have just been suspended. And I'm lacking certain prerequisites needed to be FORMALLY accepted into the major, so I can't get in now.

Because the department has been suspended do to budget problems (along with several other departments), and I'm short a few classes to be officially accepted into the major.

Budget problems - the program (along with a handful of others) is being phased out, so right now they have suspended the program and anyone that has all the required prerequisites can still be allowed in. I'm still lacking a few, so I can't be allowed in.

Transferring is an option, yes. Right now, I'm seeing what can be done here. I have started looking into other options, though.

All those budget problems I was bitching about back in spring are starting to show their ugly heads in student's lives now. I expected something like this to happen, but they should've given me (and everyone else) some kind of OFFICIAL warning saying if it was likely I wouldn't get into the major officially, I should start searching out other options. Not a MONTH before registration opens, saying I HAVE to change my major.

And I can still get my MINOR in anthro., so my hard work isn't EXACTLY put to waste. But it's still very wrong.
