Rice cooker, all the way. You will not get a decent bread maker for $50.

If you're gonna go for an appliance and don't want to go much over the gift card, I second the rice cooker. I also second not being able to get a decent bread maker for $50. I have a Cuisinart one that cost me ~$100, and I love it to death. There are even better ones that are more than that, but... eh. I liked it so much, I even bought one for mom for her birthday last year. It's great for breads, and also homemade pizza dough and stuff like that.

I would buy myself something pretty, but then I am a heathen who just uses boil in bag rice, and if I had a bread maker I'd weigh 800 pounds because I would do nothing but eat bread all day. So! I'd say whatever you can get the nicer version of, get.

Rice cooker, 'cause you can get a decent working one for around/even under $20, and then you have $25-30 left to buy something pretty. :)

Rice cooker! I've always wanted one and I never had the green to get one.

See, I believe that rice is made in a pot of boiling water, and bread is made in an oven, so I would not advise you to pick up either.

However, Kitchenaid mixers are love.
