Keep in mind the following:

A. I've never read Eragon, and
B. I don't always think "plagiarism", I think "inspired by", because there really... aren't any original stories. One of my FAVORITE books I've just read recently was HEAVILY inspired by LoTR, but the author acknowledges it. Also, LoTR's a classic now, so lots of fantasy is inspired by it, so meh. Might not count.

A. *says nothing*
B. I wasn't meaning "inspired by" because I don't think there's much original left in certain genres or things that might be considered "original" are just redoes of what came before as whatever tech we have it's just an extension of what we are now to some degree. That said, I meant PLAGARISM. Flat out "hi, I recognize that paragraph from somewhere", "hi Cassie Clare" kinda plagarism.

Ahh. Well in that case, BLEH.

You know what's sad? I liked Cassie Claire's stuff for the references. I think I even left her a review once praising that she worked in the Buffy and such, because by the time I got to it, she was acknowledging it. I thought "Hey, that's cute, a nod to other fandoms" long before I started reading fandom wank and found out that originally she hadn't acknowledged. That makes me sad, because I totally throw in nods to other fandoms in my RP/fanfic, because, well... it's fannish already. So long as you acknowledge the references, and it works in context, I think it's funny, so it sucks that she didn't acknowledge it right off the bat.

I haven't read The Belgariad/Malloreon (yet) or Eragon, hence clicking on the last option in the first part.

The "What kind of prose" question is difficult, because I like several types of prose. I think I could have answered that better with several tickyboxes.

My favorite, yes, is dense prose, but I did enjoy the Belgariad very much, and it's not dense.

...your poll appears to have mistaken Eragon for a work that has even the faintest possibility of being better than something else.

First, I haven't read Eragon.

Second, I couldn't pick just one kind of prose/writing. There's a bunch that I enjoy.

Third, strange and nosy are not necessarily bad things if you ask me, but the question does seem to imply such.
