The Illusionist, this Illusionist, and more...

Rachel and I went to see "The Illusionist" tonight. It was just a beautiful piece of cinema. Everyone was fantastic in it and the story really held me throughout. It also kept stage magic in a high regard so I was very pleased by that ( Read more... )

I think that is an awesome idea. The whole idea is to play with poeples fear and wonderment at that which they don't understand, add a sense of the macabre or chance of eternal damnation and it sounds like a party! ;)

Seriously though, sounds nice. What about seeing if Gotham down in New Haven may rent a bit of a space some night and let you try it or a pagan store front somewhere?

oh, on a side note: I work at a small complex that houses dcf committed and troubled teens up in Litchfield, any interested on doing a show some weeknight? We are trying to wrap around education and magic and seeing what happens. :)

:hugs:

PS, going to Pagan pride day?

A show like that could work well. It would depend on a number of factors though.

1 - The venue. It's got to be some place that isn't cheap or cheesy.
2 - The advertising. You've got to advertise it well and make sure that you fill all those seats. With so few of them it will be critical that every one is filled.

That being said, $20 might actually be cheap for something like that. You are offering a very unique theatrical experience at that point and if you are determined to limit the size to ony 12 seats, you may need to consider a higher price.

BTW, I was hoping to get your advice on working Ren Fairs. I'll be doing that for the first time this year, but I am only getting a "pass the hat" license, not being directly paid by the fair.

From your experiences, what do you recommend as a good way to gently get people to put bucks in the hat?

I'd pay $40 for a chance to see that. I think $20 is under-selling yourself.

With a right balance, I think it has the potential to be amazing. :)
