Abney Park on the road in CA

Oct 13, 2010 18:59

Just to begin, I do not recommend driving to San Fran and LA with an individual who does 90 mph through hairpin turns in CA. I’m just sayin…. (Nathan… poke poke) Anywho, our whole lead up to the show was a bit hectic as we got back from Hawaii on Monday evening and had to be packed, rehearsed, and ready to go by Wednesday night. After practicing on ( Read more... )

wow, Nathan does 90mph through hairpin turns? I just can't see that....unless his mind was off elsewhere.

Hairpin being a relative term. We were coming down the hill near Mt Shasta on I-5 (Yes like the soda....) As for Nathan, dont let him fool you, when he wants to get somewhere he gets there fast.. :)

Thanks for the amusing travelogue. And it's possible to bribe AP with pie? I'll need to try that next time. Robert said ya'all got tired of playing "Herr Drosslemeyers Doll" but I miss it, yo! Now I just need to learn how to bake...

I think if you want to hear "Herr Drosselmeyer's Doll" performed lived, you'd have better luck if you find them someone who can dance in pointe shoes instead of pie. (It seems like it's a performance piece that needs the dancer as much as the song.)

I've been trying to talk my Bellevue-based ballet-trained B.A.-in-Dance-from-UW sister into coming up with something for the song, but she hasn't budged yet...I need to get her to a show first, I think, and then introduce her to everyone afterwards and see if anything might be possible.

I offered myself (though I have more burlesque skills than ballet) and he said they have plenty of dancers volunteering, just no will to play the song. This might require a combination of pie + dancer. A baking ballerina perhaps?

I've been listening to the DNA Lounge's archived webcast, love it! The whole event sounds fantastic, makes me wish I wasn't on the wrong coast. Maybe it's that their recording quality is better than anything else I catch online, but it sounds like a particularly good show from Abney Park (although a little light on the extra talk and stories, which are always fun to hear too)

You always make your show trips sound so awesomely adventurous and entertaining. On this one I can't help but wonder what was up with the drunk guy, violent or over-enthusiastic? You both were ok, right?

Yeah, it's too bad they were rushed. Still sounded great though :)

I think he was very happy and loud, but was not a very considerate drunk. On the flip side, the Bar Sin Security was HUGE and took care of it right away.

Thank you for recounting this!

I very much wish I could be at SteamCon, but as I'm not getting paid until the week after, it's going to be next-to-impossible.

However, I am happy to consider indentured servitude if con admission and the concert could be negotiated in trade (I'll get room and food somehow...), if you'd be interested in a person for the merch table for the entirety of the event. I know you probably have tons of volunteers already, but it's a thought, perhaps...?!?

I really want to see you at Steamcon, since Abney Park performances and conventions are the only time we get to hang out. Darn my poverty or I would lend you the admission price!
