TUTORIAL: How to Lock Out Further Comments to an Entry

Mar 22, 2011 12:35

Is one of your entries to daniel_vala getting comment-spammed by anonymous users with garbage-y links to mediocre porn and illicit vending of prescription drugs?

OPTIONS:
  • Manually continue to delete each comment spam every time you receive one >_<
  • OR Delete the entire entry & its comments (even the nice feedback left for your fanwork) D:
  • OR Delete all comments and freeze the entry :(
  • OR Lock the entry to future comments :S
  • EDITED TO ADD: Or Member-lock the entry :\

How to Lock Out Further Comments to an Entry (only the original poster can perform this action; community admin cannot)
  1. Click the Edit icon (looks like a pencil)
  2. At the bottom, click the "Allow Comments?" drop-down menu
  3. Choose "Locked"
  4. Click "Save Entry" button

A workaround to continue to receive feedback for your fanwork would be to post your work to a public entry on your own LJ, and make a link in the spambot-targeted entry to direct real people to it.

Another workaround would be to Member-lock the entry, making the post viewable only to members of daniel_vala and thereby disallowing anonymous comments:
