CHAPTER 6
Who said dreams are something you will lose someday?
I laugh at that for I’m choosing my tomorrow
I have a wish
Since there’s no stars, I pray softly to you
Because it’s a miracle that only you can make it happen
Even if I pray softly to you many times,
It will take all my own, like I’m doing now
For it to get to you
through this far away sky
To connect ourselves through this prayer

Ninomiya read once again the words he had just written and sighed, still inspired. It wasn’t as if something extraordinary had happened, it was just a dinner. Anyway, he felt specially pleased that night.
He closed his notebook and rolled in bed, facing the ceiling.
He smiled, for no reason at all. Actually, there was a reason, even if it was nothing more than just a hope.
- This place is really interesting, Ninomiya-kun. I like the mood and the background music.
Of course, in addition to the food. It has been a while since I’ve eaten such a delicious burger.
- I knew you would like it - he said, proud of his choice. At first, he had been a little apprehensive when Ohno insisted with him to choose the restaurant. Even insecure, he opted for a discrete and familiar restaurant, where they served a very tasty hamburger. It didn’t take him long, considering the approving smile and the way his companion was enjoying the food, for him to realize that he had made the right choice. - It’s a pity that it’s not Thursday. Otherwise, I would take the chance to take you to that bar I mentioned to you. My friend’s band plays there in this day of the week.
He bit his lip, regretful. The dinner invitation was already more than he had been hoping for. Nothing in the man’s actions hinted that he intended to take that meeting beyond.
- We could go there any other week - was the surprising reply.
It wasn’t a promise, they didn’t even mention the subject afterwards, talking about many things other than the music that had united them. He found out, for instance, that the man on the other side of the table liked to fish on his free time and also that, when he was a teenager, he used to read the same mangas he liked. Ohno was interesting, as well as beautiful and mysterious. There was something on him that attracted him, more than the sleepy eyes and the shy smile; something he would like to learn, even if he wasn’t able to pinpoint what it was.
Even so, when they said their goodbyes, he wasn't able to forget the words that suggested that they could see each other any other day. He wouldn’t deny that he wanted to see Ohno Satoshi again and he wondered if the man would search for him once more.
After all, although they've had a pleasant moment together, he didn't hint any romantic intentions, nor even had proposed exchanging phone numbers or e-mails, just saying goodbye to him at the station.
He got a bit frustrated, he wouldn’t lie; on the other hand, he was strangely excited when he hadn’t proposed sex, as he had believed to be the intention behind the invitation, at first. By the way, right then, what would have he done if he had invited him to a love hotel?
He didn’t have the chance to answer that question, jumping when he heard his cellphone ringing. He sighed, annoyed, even before looking at the screen. Miura-senpai had called him thrice already, twice of them during his dinner with Ohno.
He had ignored it then, but he couldn’t keep avoiding him. He sat down, faking a sleepy voice.
- Yes?
- Kazu? Is everything ok? I’ve tried to call you a few times, but you didn’t pick up. I got worried.
- I’m sorry, senpai. I was busy at work. I’ve just got home...
- Do you want to come to my house? The guys are all here.
- Well, it’s a bit late... - he checked the time at the digital clock over the nightstand - and I’m kind of tired. I think I’m...
- I’ll ask Ren-chan to fetch you by car. He might get there in twenty minutes, ok?
- But senpai...
- I’ll be waiting. I have something special to you...
Nino bit his lower lip, upset. Nonetheless, even if he didn’t have any desire of seeing Miura and his friends that night, he knew he wouldn’t deny the offer.
He turned off the phone, cursing himself.
- It’s the last time, Niji… - he said out loud, taking the turtle, that was walking slowly beside the bed, in his lap. - I’ll stop this, I promise you - he said, firmly.
But neither him nor the turtle that was facing him, unmoved, believed his promise.

- Thank you for the hard work - the manager smiled as soon as Nino left his job that night. He bowed and answered politely before crossing the automatic door.
The weather was pleasant and the moon was quite visible in the dark-lead colored sky. Squeezing his belly, he considered stopping by a konbini to buy an instant ramen. However, he didn’t managed to take even two steps towards the corner. In front of him, waiting with shy eyes was the person he never thought he would see again. After all, it had been over a month since their last meeting.
- Ohno-san? What are you doing here?
- Today is Thursday... - he started, with a smile. - I’m curious to see your friend’s band. I know we didn’t have anything scheduled, but, are you free today, Ninomiya-san? Would you take me there?
Nino didn’t have to think to give his answer:
- Can we have dinner somewhere before? I’m starving…
****************
The place suggested by Ninomiya was more pleasant than Ohno could have imagined, wide and cool. The customers were mostly youngsters with rebel looks: leather clothes, bleached hair, piercings… maybe because of the day’s music style. According to Kazunari, they presented several bands over the week; about three bands shared the stage each night.
The music would vary between foreigners and nationals and the styles were very much alike the ones Ohno enjoyed. He nodded his approval. The intensity of the percussion of the bass, in harmony with the drums, and the melancholy in the singer’s voice was the perfect combination that only a place like that would bring.
- Would you like something to drink? - invited Nino, pulling him towards the bar, where he asked for two beers.
- How is that I’ve never heard about this place before? Thank you for bringing me here, Ninomiya-kun…
- Nino… You can call me Nino, as everybody does - he added, under the questioning eyes.
- Nino - he tried, before taking the can to his mouth. - I like it.
- Do you go out a lot, Ohno-san? - he asked, to hide the embarrassment caused by the sound of his nickname on the man’s voice.
- Not much… - he was short.
- You should go out more. You have a completely different expression when you are surrounded by music… - he commented, without thinking.
- What do you mean?
- Now… this satisfied smile, the glimmer in your eyes… It’s as if it rejuvenated you.
Ohno faced him, curious about the comment. So, he had been analyzing his expressions?
- It’s easy to say for someone who seems to never grow old… - instinctively, he ran two of his fingers over the perfect face.
For a few seconds, Nino closed his eyes, accepting the caress. However, he became self-conscious once again as soon as he heard a well-known voice announcing his band on the microphone.
- Come on, Ohno-san! My friend’s band is going to play now!
Making their way amidst the crowd, Nino guided Ohno until the front of the stage. The guitar player recognized him immediately, throwing him an astonishing smile and pointing at him.
The gesture was returned in the same intensity and Ohno thought the smile made him look even younger and even prettier. He glanced at the band and followed the rhythm of music with his body.
The band performed for around fifty minutes and, only after that, did they return to the bar for another beer.
- Your friends are very good.
- Specially the guitar player. He was my music instructor at school.
- He is amazing!
- Yes, he is.
- Is this the band in which you play once in a while? - he asked, truly interested. - I’d like to hear you playing.
Again, the insinuation that they could meet once more brought him an unusual enthusiasm.
- Someday, I can show you, Oh-chan...
-Oh-chan?
- Well, you call me Nino. It’s just fair for me to call you by a nickname, isn’t it?
‘Yes, it was fair’, thought the officer man.
- Would you like to dance, Oh-chan?
Once again, without a choice, he was dragged to the center of the dance floor.
Nonetheless, he couldn’t resist when the other started moving in front of him, their bodies following the rhythm of the music until the next band climbed up the stage.
And he also couldn’t react when, a bit later, Nino’s lips crushed against his in a sensual kiss.
