Where's he going to eat his turkey and jalapeno sandwiches if there's someone sitting where he usually sits? Temari may not realize this, but for a brief moments, powers beyond her comprehension are willing her to finish up and leave.

... but since Sokka never actually had those powers, he goes to sit next to her. And by next to, he leaves room for two more people between them, because he doesn't know you, okay. Before opening up his lunchbox of food, he gives her a lukewarm nod and a:] Hey.
