Me too, sort of--some of them I like more, now that they're oldies, than I did when they were current and being played to death when I wanted to hear some other song!
Yeah, but what if the committee's taste in music sucks? :) Ok, so maybe that was a little harsh, but my point I guess is that music is a personal thing, and no two people (let alone a group of a dozen) are going to have the same tastes in music... which could widen the spectrum, but probably cause even more indecision since an entire jury has to agree instead of two people who are doing their best to compromise.
A mix CD made by the committee for the couple as a wedding gift would be a good idea though, and the committee can make suggestions to the couple, but I think ultimately the couple should choose. Either that, or have the couple choose the first song and the committee choose the second song.

*lol* I think that it could test the strength and character of the couple's relationship, and weed out the weak. Can you imagine how many wedding gifts could be returned when it turns out that the couple that thought they were going to get married were really only in it for the regular sex? Why should distant relatives be hit up for presents for that?
I think it would be very interesting if the choice of wedding song influenced the future of the relationship of the couple, as well as their relationships with their near and dear ones.
I don't think the couple should have the choice of the first song. They get to choose just about everything else in the wedding. I sort of like the idea of a kind of a star-chamber composed of friends & family members having the power to select the first song the wedding couple dances to. It could make for more interesting family drama, or it could actually make for less "bridezillas".
