Nothing is hotter than a repressed angsty aristocrat...

Eeek! I really really want to watch the 1998 Russian adaptation of the Dumas novel La Dame De Monsoreau (one of my all time favorite books, and yes, I do own the 1970s French miniseries based on it. Bussy was one of my earliest crushes). And I can find it, too, but OMG, it’s over $120 and yes, it is 9 discs and 20 episodes long but still. *faint* I ( Read more... )

He is just RIDICULOUSLY pretty - the sort of pretty that would turn me into a blushing, flailing 12-year-old if I ever encountered it in real life.

Oh, I know. It's the kind of pretty that would just be too much in real life. Though I suppose, since he is mainly a stage actor (apparently), he manages :)

Thank you so much!

I have never used edonkey, but hey, I learned how to use clubbox, which is entirely in Korean, so I don't give up hope...

Oh lordy I wish I knew how to speak Russian. That guy is so damn fine. And I'd like to ask Anna who does her hair - it's like one part insane and one part awesome.

This hair is relatively simple. She has some really odd hairdos later on :)

Hmm. I am still not sure if I like Anna herself. All the guys seem to be so awesome and she seems to be just a usual blond bombshell..

ust a usual blond bombshell.

Lookwise or character-wise?

I find her very very beautiful look-wise, but yeah, she is blonde-bombshellish looking.

Re character: she is very Victorian, so liking her or not depends on whether this sort of thing is something you like. I admit that I like her just fine, but I watch for the men :P

Lookwise or character-wise?

Look-wise.. I find her very much barbie-doll looking but this can change when I see her acting!

I know that this has been mentioned before that this show sort of has the feel of a Russian period Hana Yori Dango. But your entry about the love triangle between Michael, Anna, and Vladimir was so dead on in echoing the Rui-Tsukushi-Doumyouji triangle ( ... )

It's a very interesting Hanadan comparison, and actually rather true, as well. I think what happens is it really feeds into a desire that women sometimes have to have someone who, flaws and all, will just love you so utterly and completely there would be no room for anything else in them, nothing to trump it. It's a lovely idea. And of course also fits with the 'woman civilizing man' theme.

woman in them rather than the damsel in distress

Very true. Anna loses her temper with him etc etc. She is not just well behaved sweet thing, she is a woman. Which is awesome.

And oh, the pretty. The pretty.
