I have added another drama to my already overflowing roster: jdrama Jotei, currently airing, about a formerly innocent school girl who decides to achieve revenge through becoming top hostess (read 'whore') and who meets a hot (obviously) gangster played by Matsuda Shota who decides to help her and who falls for her ( Read more... )

It was your picspam that was at fault, in adding this on my list :)

It's so cracktastically melodramatic and cheesy, it's so very awful that it's FANTASTIC. I've only seen two episodes of it so far, but as you said, Matsuda Shota as a gangster with angst and OTPness with a girl determined to be a top hostess, how could that possibly go wrong?

...becoming top hostess (read 'whore')...

Hostesses aren't whores in the true sense. Yes, there are whores amongst hostesses, that is for sure, but in reality, hostess clubs are fantasy words created by women where men can go to relax before the return to harsh reality. Sex is not necessarily required, though it does sometimes follow.

I pick issue with "hostess = whore" equation because host clubs are essentially the same as hostess clubs and hosts don't get labeled as such as often. Jotei definitely plays up that idea of hostesses using sex to climb the ladder of success, but it isn't always that way.

Enough of my commentary. ;P I do hope you enjoy it because when I started watching this, I just knew it'd be perfect for you. :D

Interesting. I sort of associate both with 'putting out' pretty equally, but that's just me. I do think it's a sleazy type of job, regardless of the gender. But hey, I am not going to be watching Jotei for its moral fibre but the melodrama :)
