I still haven’t seen Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Aaaaaargh.

Being a good girl and waiting until Mr. Mousie can go too (this weekend) is killing me. One more day, one more day, one more day.

I have tried reading the infamous Cassandra Cla(i)re’s City of Bones novel. In the bookstore. (Leaving aside everything else, I am not paying $17 unless I ( Read more... )

part of why I so virulently disliked CC's City of Bones calledinvain May 31 2007, 22:38:50 UTC
was because the writing was so so bad, and yet, somehow, she managed to get a publishing deal (which I know shouldn't bother me, because the sheer amount of books that get published every year is staggering and then when you consider how much of it is utter crap....it becomes depressing) and on her writerly 'merits,' she's in a close writer circle with other writers I actually think are talented and doing wonderful things for the genre she's crowbarred her way into, and sifting aside any petty jealousy on my part, I find myself in the Woody Allen situation: do you appreciate the work on its own, or do you take into account the person who created it and then filter the work through personal biases? Because Woody Allen is a jackass, but he's made some incredibly funny and moving films.

The entire CC debacle only inspires me to get off my ass and to keep working on my own writing. Practice is what is going to save me, not talent - talent means nothing if you don't work at it.

Luckily for us, CC's book is bad so the dilemma doesn't arise :)

I tried reading City of Bones too and gave up after ten or so pages. The writing was stale and not my thing. And this is coming from someone who sloughed through the entirety of CC's massive Draco Trilogy. Next on the list to check out for YA lit: Holly Black's Tithe.

Has Ash's book come out yet. I sort of gave up on Dark Hunters a while ago but Ash is still worth a trip back into the series.

It's supposed to come out in 2008. That's the one I want.

Does Nick( that was his name, right?) have a book yet? I always wanted to find out what they were going to do with him?

Nope,no book. He's set to betray Ash though as he joined forces with Stryker.

I'm 80-90 pages into Talon's book and already distracted from the leads.

Is it wrong that, even though I haven't met him, I'm inclined to like Valerius just because his existance pisses Kyrian off?

Tabitha was cool at the beginning of the first book, but I got fed up with her when she was trying to stake Kyrian.

Re: Tabitha. Now just imagine a book's worth of that shrillness. Yikes.

You do meet Valerius and he amuses me mightily.

So, what if anything do you think of Ash?
