Eklavya: Shakespeare in Rajastan

I am behind on my flist and replies but will get to it ASAP.

OK, I am tired and about to take a nap, so all I'll say for now is...

DAMN.

Eklavya.

Saif, stop spoiling me with such awesome movies.

It would take a hell of a year to knock this out of my Top 5 for 2007.

The Plot: In a crumbling old town in Rajastan (?) sits a Raja in name only, a ( Read more... )

Yes you must watch more Sanjay movies indeed :)

Have you ever seen Khalnayak? It's not a good movie (the ending sucks, the OTP is pretty dysfunctional), but it's a classic dammit.

He really is excellent. Khalnayak is the one with Madz, right? Yeah, I'll netflix it.

I've only seen Sanajay in Eklavya, Parineeta, Mission Kashmir, the Munnabhai movies, Virrudh, and Chal Mere Bhai but I loved him in them (even the awful CMB) so yeah, time to go a-huntin'.

It's interesting because VVC seems to like to reuse his actors too: not just Saif and Vidya and Rimi from Parineeta, but Sanjay and Jackie. Yay!

And you have seen Dus too ;D ( ... )

LOl, that still is hilarious.

I've forgotten about Dus. No idea why, as I liked it, in all its silly, mindless, cool chic glory.

I am pretty forgiving of chemistry in Bolly movies, so Khalnayak it is.

some major desire for young Salman... :)

Heh, don't I always?

Wasn't really young Sanjay in Rocky? Or am I confusing him with someone?

Yeah, I've definitely been hearing great things about Eklavya. I'll probably wait for proper DVD on this one, so the image and cinematography has a real chance to shine. Everybody seems to be saying the same thing; Saif's hot, film's interesting & good so I know that much. ;) Looking forward to it!

Oh, and to reply to that Bones comment, S1 is on DVD. S2 is definitely better (¤tly airing) but S1 is great as well.

And you probably didn't notice so... I watched Mars & really like it. I realized it was the manga's art that really bothered me, not the story. And yeah, I finally get Vic Zhou. ;)

I am horrifically behind on my flist (I've been out of town) so thanks for poitning out re: mars. YAY! Am off to read your post!

And yes, the movie is excellent. I wasn't sure what to expect exactly, but it was very very good, and dramatic, and Saif was amazing. The mullet days are long behind him, too, and he looks smoking. Since you probably skipped the spoilery potion of my write-up, I'll reproduce the following non-spoilery part to further whet your appetite:

'Oh yeah, since it's my review, I cannot close without a fanigirl observation: SAIF. How come he just gets hotter with age? At the point of the movie where he is shirtless, I sort of temporarily lost my ability to follow the movie. And then the scenes of him in the black shirt, near the end, with the stubble and that intense voice, and the tortured eyes? I am dead.'

Since it's an arty movie and not some sort of mad blockbuster, I don't think DVD is that far behind.

to further whet your appetite
Dude, as if you have to. :D! Saif looking excellent in a serious movie that comes from a banner known for its quality (VVC ftw), I don't know what could make me *not* want to see this movie.

So no complaints at all about the movie? I heard some people had issues with the ending and some thought it was *too* short.

The ending? OK, without giving it away, artistically speaking, a different ending might have been more appropriate (not that the ending VVC had didn't make sense or anything, but story-wise, it would have been more 'right' to maybe have a different one). However, I was happy it ended the way it did because I cared for the characters (and as I said, it wasn't unreasonable, or a Mission Kashmir WTF ending, far from it). It was set up to go either way. Argh, it's really tough to discuss without any spoilers. But basically, yes, I can understand complaints about the ending, but don't share them.

Re: length. I loved the characters so I would have been happy to watch them for hours, but I didn't think it was too short. The pace was good, it told what it needed to. But IMO of course.
