I have a fandom confession to make: I like Doctor Who but don't love it. I enjoyed it when SciFi was running it, but when the season ended, I was perfectly content to wait until fall when it would start airing the new one. No great desire for torrents. And even when it was running on scifi, I was pretty OK with waiting a week between episodes. I ( Read more... )

Did you try Stargate Atlantis or the original series (not that it makes much of a difference, but I'm just curious).

Both. And was equally bored by both.

Speaking of things you have seen. Have you ever read or watched Dune (SciFi by Frank Herbert)? If yes, what did you think about it? Too political and not romantic enough?

(I might have asked you about that before and forgotten)

Mainly, I found the concept of retelling the story of the birth of Islam as a scifi thing a bit odd.

It was OK but I wasn't invested enough into characters.

I do like plenty on non-romantic things :P. Lawrence of Arabia is probably my most favorite movie. But then I have to be drawn to the characters.

Yes, exactly. I tried the eps with BB and CB and much as I like them, the show couldn't hold my attention anyway.

Out of interest, where are you up to?

Done with ep 3. I would normally move much faster, but I am also finishing rewatching Mars (4 eps to go) and am watching 'Silence' (though since it's now a brave new world of Mandarin without subs with that one, I think I'll slow down on that one a bit).

But yes, all of a sudden, I feel for her.

*whistling at the ceiling* I did try to tell you to give it a little more time...:)

Perhaps I am more sympathetic toward Minami because I can't imagine how horrible it must be for anyone to get dumped on her wedding day, lose all her money, have nowhere to live, and then face ageism in her work as a model to the point where she can't really even work at anything that gives her self respect. She's the way she is for lots of good reasons.

And koalathebear is absolutely right. :)

True. It just took me a while to appreciate it. I guess because I do have a rather different personality (not that I am not loud on occassion :P but I couldn't imagine acting the way she did because I get horrified of imposing :))

But yes, the fact that she can't even get work, though she is quite attractive, merely because she is 30, is pretty horrible. Of course, the ageism is exacerbated by the fact that she is a model and that's a very short shelf-life profession in the West, too.

Oh yes. The acting. I can be lax on that when there are attractive men, but I am afraid no one of SGA does anything for me.
