But last night husband and I ended up marathoning Trigun up until ridiculous hours instead. Oh, you just keep watching HYD, and then tell me what you think. ^^

Rui is okay, but I'm actually not such a fan. He's the one whom you like right off, and then begin to see less flattering things about. While the other guys just continue to grow and grow on you. I personally adore Doumyouji, but also love love love Akira and Soujiro. Tsukushi's relationship with the F4, and specifically those who aren't her love interests, is one of the best things about this show. ;P

The thing about Rui that struck me as not too likeable from the first ep (and it might of course be very very off based on later eps, as I am going from a single episode here) is that he is so very passive. He just doesn't seem to care or be interested in things.

I mean, even with the F4 bullying thing, from what I can tell Doumyouji seems to be all about "yay, these people cross us, they should pay" so he actually likes and has fun ruling the place so it would make sense that he's be all about the hazing. But Rui doesn't even like it, he just goes along because why not and that strikes me as, in some ways, worse, because if he doesn't even think it's a good idea, why do it? He is very passive, I think. But hey, pretty and rather nice so, so far I am a fan of the boy.

3. People who had fits because James, Sirius and Remus ganged up on Snape in high school, stay away. This is going to give you conniptions and palpitations and spasms.

Well, it's a bit different, because the bullying is supposed to be bad. Ie, these are not previously "good" characters who are suddenly shown doing something horrible. You're supposed to think that they're assholes right now, but they change over time.

I liked the muted watercolory palette of HYD a lot! I hope you'll start to enjoy it rather than it distracting you. :-)

I think the extra distraction is because I popped it in half an hour after I've finished Trigun which has very bright primary colors and a very different artwork style (and of course, because the subject matter is so different from Trigun, it was also giving me vertigo :P)
