You got that right. If you thought fantasy fans were bad, welcome to the ninth ring of badfic hell.
I think this is only a second book I ever gave up on because I couldn't deal with the subject matter.
I've done that with a couple books. I remember stopping reading some book about some serial killer simply because the subject matter was so disturbing.

Oh. My. God. You mean it's worse than Harry Potter fic?????

I read "Devil in the White City" and so wish I didn't. I ended up peering at my husband for days, wondering if he was a psycho secretly planning to off me. And I am only half-kidding.
That's debatable, though I've always thought there was a special place for Harry Potter badfic writers in badfic hell. It was like the VIP room or something.

I'm generally okay with either true crime or mystery novels, in fact I normally find them fascinating, which is why I even surprised myself by being so disturbed. I think I got all of one chapter into it and was like "okay, that's enough of that".
I remember my friend reading some book about the FBI profiler. She insisted on telling me the most gruesome stories just when I had to leave the house every night ar 2am to go to the lab. I was scarred for life :P
