The Blade and Petal - ep 1

The thing that draws me the most the TB&P is how uniquely its own thing it is - it is all about mood and tone - much more of a visual poem than a traditional sageuk narrative. You're right, it is both historical and gorgeous :o) And you mentioning the music is great is a big plus for me as well.

I think I'll watch it but I'll wait to see if it remains gorgeous or not. I've seen too many dramas with gorgeous first episodes that give them a little something extra only to plunge straight ahead into the mundane when live shoots catch up to them.

Yes, more or less this. TB&P really is a weird sort of visual poem that flows on it's own pace and own space. Whether you can connect with it is another matter.

It's funny how those of us who did find a connection, all write about it almost the same way. Using similar words and expressions, often times searching for the right ones.

It does have a sort of The Duelist vibe but what it reminds me most of is Sands of Time.

But, as eobulle saud, can they keep it up once the live shoot starts? Editing and any fx needed are usually the first casualities.

Now that you mentioned the Sands of Time, I can see that.

I am going to catch up on eps 2-4 this week.

My reading of it is that much of it is filtered through So Hee's memories, hence the dreamlike quality and things like the silent montage in the market. I kept thinking of The Duelist a lot while watching it, too.
