Jang Ok Jung - romantic gorgeousness to the max

Apr 02, 2013 09:57

I confess I had only a mild interest in Jang Ok Jung, the romantic period kdrama that starts next week. I like both Kim Tae Hee (who plays the eponymous Jang Heebin) and Yoo Ah In (who plays King Sukjong), but was not sure how they would pair with each other, plus transforming Jang Heebin into a sympathetic heroine is a tall order (for those ( Read more... )

JOJ is hitting all the right notes and works for me in alll the ways that I hoped MTETS would have but never did. The acting, the chemistry, the cinematography, the music, the costumes!!! - I LOVE ALL OF IT! I think YAI must have been born for the Joseon garb - it's Moon Jae Shin's comeback and it seems he hasn't grown a day older!!! I had my doubts about the chemistry between the leads when it's announced that KTH who is quite older than him was cast as the heroine but now I have to give the casting team the credit it deserves because even the air around them appears to be crackling with sparks. Plus the real JOJ was older than the king so kudos for some historical accuracy. I just hope they won't drag the childhood portion of the story for too long, I'm also curious how much they'll stick to the original novel by Choi Jung-Mi ( ... )

Yes, it helps that YAI looks like a young man, not a kid playing dress up (which is what I thought about KSH's turn in Moon/Sun). And the chemistry looks gorgeous. But then KTH usually has wonderful chemistry with her male leads.

I do hope the childhood portion is not too long as I am not big on that sort of thing.

I have been in a kdrama slump since Arang and the Magistrate, at least (I think it ended after Faith, right?) I guess I want a period kdrama and nothing has been obliging. I loved Faith, Arang, Gaksital, Queen In Hyun's Man and want something like this for this year.

It's true, I love both those PDs. It's going to be a hell of a battle.

Same as you about the slump after Faith ended. JOJ is supposed to be a 24-episode long so I'm afraid they will drag the childhood portion for at least 2-4 episodes but well I plan to survive that by watching the interspecies make outs between Gumiho and his human lover in their cave hideaway ;-)

This could be fun... or not but at least it'll be full of pretty and those gorgeous costumes are a bonus. ;) Not sure the story has enough pull for me though but I guess I'll give it a go for YAI. I think he's born to do sageuks.

It's been such a long while since a kdrama could truly hook me, I've been dropping them left and right without a 2nd thought. Most I didn't even bother to sample.

Yeah, I've been in a kdrama slup for months. Hopefully this signals a reversal.

Mousie,

On the topic of new trailers, have you seen this one for Mandate of Heaven? It reminds me somewhat of Chuno. Looks intriguing :)

OMG, this looks amazing.

It's like feast or famine with kdramas, I swear - nothing for months and now three awesome-looking period kdramas at once!

I caught this trailer while live-streaming TWTWB, and was really intrigued. I'm not a big sageuk/historical/period fan, but I'm really looking forward to this!

Oh hi btw, I've been following your lj for a while now (you were my guide to kdramas, thanks!) And while I don't use my lj at all except for following some communities, I sent you a friend request; hope you don't mind! ^.^
