Ooolala!

Even though I enjoyed the 'wronged woman' narrative of the main story of Ohlala Spouses (the drama makes no bones the husband is a scrumbag and is going to get a delicious come-uppance and a lesson from awesome wifey) but I confess my favorite thing were the little flashbacks into the spouses' past lives!

It's funny. Shin Hyun Joon isn't a good looking man, but he has hella charisma. I almost didn't make it through episode 1 because I wanted so much to hurt him so much. The drama will have to heap tons of misery on him for me to forgive him enough to let him come back to her.

Really, he's my nightmare of the stereotypically abusive Korean husband. All you'd have to add is wife beating, and he'd be the poster boy. I can't imagine the number of housewives experiencing catharsis watching this drama.

I wonder if thats why they wrote him that way. Cause usually the drama hero, even when he's kind of a jerk always falls for the heroine hard and then goes to great lengths to protect her/declare his love/shower her with a nice wardrobe etc etc lol. this guy is more like an ugly reality that alot of korean married women probably have to deal with. either that or an cold indifferent husband. I remember my japanese american friend who is working in japan atm now, telling me how sad she was hearing so many stories from married women who rly disliked their husbands and were clearly unhappy in their marriages but didnt really have options or plans to leave. and its pretty common in Japan (and Korea but a bit more in Japan) for women to quit work upon marriage, not even kids but as soon as they are married. its just kind of sad. and I remember reading how korean women have almost no options in terms of career advancement even after spending their lives in intense schools and colleges working their butts off for good grades only to have all ( ... )

That's a really good point. Because the drama makes no bones he is a scumbag who deserves comeuppance - that's petty unique in a kdrama.
