Rooftop Prince and The Equator Man - two dramas with nothing in common except for the timeslot

Apr 09, 2012 21:32

I confess my interest in Rooftop Prince is beginning to wane. I am currently managing to keep up with 4 airing dramas (all three W/Th dramas and Love Rain) but I am about to add Hero to the list and try to catch up on God of War and if I will find that I need to drop one, RP will probably be the one. It's a cute, sweet drama but it's darling fluff ( Read more... )

I had been afraid that The Equator Man would be too much like Resurrection. And I'm so relieved that he isn't reprising his prior role. There are some serious differences between the two. TEM feels so much more desperate. Much darker. In Resurrection, he still had had a wonderful life with his surrogate family. A much better one than his brother had with the stepfather. And certainly a much better one than the one Sun Woo has now, knowing that all he got for the love he gave Jang Il is the loss of the two people who most mattered to him and of the life he could have had. Geez, the best way to get me - I think - is to feature street urchins trying their damnedest to survive. I just want to take in all these kids as foster siblings or nephews/nieces.

I've more or less decided to do the same. RP is entertaining fluff but not something I'd absolutely need to watch. I FF most of it anyway. I'm about to finally add God of War to the roster (been waiting for more subs) and that means something's got to give. So... RP it is.

TEM is wonderfully twisty and dark. In a way it's darker than Mawang and I'm seriously loving that. Lee Joon Hyuk is doing an exellent job but it's UTW that has me glued to the screen. He's always had the ability to be mesmerising but here it feels like he's added another layer to his portrayal. Not that it surprises me, I've watched 'Handphone' after all. The disgusting piece of humanity he played there was rather disturbing in a 'can't-take-my-eyes-off' kinda way. *g* His real self is so sweet and goofy so I'm wondering where he drags up all the darkness from.....

Must be the genes, his sister's also excellent. Wish they could lure her to do a drama.

Jang-Il's courtship of Ji-Won was giving me the willies, so I'm glad the focus has moved (back) to Ji-Won and Sun-Woo and it's forcing Ji-Won to open her eyes to Jang-Il's true colors. And (adults) Ji-Won and Sun-Woo are lovely, quite enjoying their chemistry & scenes.

I just watched the pre-view for ep 7 and it looks like another doozer. Jang Il and his Ji Won obsession is making my skin crawl... Of course it'll be Sun Woo who'll get hit with the fallout for the rejection that's sure to come.

Yeah, that is about where I am with RP though I am still keeping it for now. It's a cuter concept for a movie than a drama.

Yeah I think RP is slipping away from me too. I might drop back in for a visit a few episodes down the road, but I'm not feeling particularly attached.

I am glad I am not alone - fandom adores it but I am so so.
