Ahhh. Miss Ripley

Am marathonning it properly with subs and yes, this is the kind of drama that works so much better in one gulp - it really reminds me of one of these 19th-century French novels, maybe by Zola.

Ah, it was really great. I missed watching a dark intense melodrama like Miss Ripley. Reminded me of the good old times when almost every kdrama was like this.

I know! They are pretty much out of vogue now - this is the only one this year. But I love them - Bali, A Love to Kill, QSS etc. Hmmm, now I am getting the urge to watch Piano, which I have been hoarding.

Oh yes, Piano. I wanted to watch it during my Go Soo obsession but somehow I never got around to it. Huh, I think I'm actually going to watch it now, I've got nothing new to watch, thanks for reminding me about it! :)

*off to watch Piano*

What I saw of Piano was excellent!

I think the writer writes flawed characters better, his/her martyrs are all so one-dimensional but the more gray-area kind of characters are just so enthralling.

And yes, I want Miri to have YooHyun even just for a little while. :( :( I know she has been evil, but she wants to face her consequences... and he will be waiting for her to come back to him one day. YooHyun was her only chance to real happiness, without any masks on. :(

Myung Hoon's sacrifices leave me cold. He's not in love. He's just stupid. Grow a spine, man.

Agreed. I found neither HJ nor MH (who is being an idiot as opposed to YH being rational - there is a difference btw loving and enabling) particularly compelling.

I do love YH but because of the effect he has on Miri - it's fascinating to watch her fall in love for real and then try to come to terms with that feeling and then his dissillusionment, and due to the whole family karma thing. I am not sure how I would have taken to him if we did not have that (especially all those amazing Miri/YH scenes after he finds out the truth). But then, he's less saintly than HJ or MH, thank God.

and also, LOL have you ever seen the Miri-Hirayama shippers? So gross. LOL. How can you ship that? He's a pedophile, a vile miscreant, a pig of a man, and just one really abusive mess.
I know Lee Da Hae and Kim Jung Tae act their roles well... but come. on. That's just so demeaning to describe Hirayama's feelings as "love" and how lucky Miri has become for being loved by him all this time. BARF.

Are you kidding me? There are Miri/Hirayama shippers? I think I just threw up. He's abusive to her verbally, physically and emotionally. Whatever one may think of whether Miri is worthy of happiness, nobody deserves to have an abusive monster like Hiroyama obsess over them - she's pretty much sobbing with animal fear any time she is in his vicinity.

Ugh.

But then remember East of Eden? And how there were people rabidly shipping rapist with his victim and saying she wasn't worthy of him? Yeah. Some people freak me out.
