What is it with Taiwan and creating groups based on fictional characters the group members portrayed?

I thought F4 was an abberation, but I found out today that the five guys who play the Wu Hu Jiang (a.k.a. Five Tiger Generals) in K.O. 3an Guo were all put in a band called...what else? Wu Hu Jiang...during the filming of the drama and continued ( Read more... )

Yeah, the opening song to K.O.3 is Dui Shou or Opponent and it's an ensemble song with Champion, Wu Hu Jiang (which literally means Five Tiger Generals) and Dong Cheng Wei (led by Xiu/Liu Bei which is carried over from the X Family).

In a weird way I find this way of assembling boybands more organic than the Korean/Japanese format of training them from teens to becoming these idols who can supposedly all sing and dance and act and everything in one package. Essentially the Taiwanese format is cashing in on fan interest, as opposed to having to form that fan interest from the bottom up ( ... )

I just think it's weird to have it after fictional characters. I don't know, the whole Asian pop world confuses me.

AHHH YAAAY AN XIANG. I'm so sad that the drama got practically no love outside of the Chinese-speaking fandom. I mean, it did get kind of ridiculous 3/4 of the way in, but still... HXM is sooo hot in it. Thank God he's not wearing a wig in this. D:

And the ending theme is so nice. I wanted HXM to include a CD-version of it on his second album, but no luck. :( But anyway, I was watching your video embed and I realized it totally spoils the ending, lol.

Hope it gets subbed soon. :D

I'm excited for the drama too! It looks really dramatic and cute. Hopefully they release an episode soon. I feel like I've been waiting forever.
