It is easy to be a drama heroine - as heroine death is fairly passe, all you have to do is to be cute and plucky and voila - soon enough you will be Mrs. Chaebol, adored by all, and finally able to afford those eye treatments to fix extensive tear damage.

Isn't it great how we can always count on the deluded secondary girl to create problems for our poor hero/heroine? I bet most dramas would be over in 5 episodes if not for them secondary girls. :p

You know, I actually like the newer take on the Secondary Girls. Someday, IRIS, Giant, Gloria - all have cool, un-evil/bitchy secondary girls. With their own lives and their own desires. Plus sometimes, their own OTPs.
I understand the Korean trope of having four leads, but that doesn't mean the secondary female has to be this evil/crazy person. I love Miju, YS, Sun Hwa (who will be making an appearance in Athena), and Hye Young are all defined as the 'secondary female lead' by websites and press releases, but they are so not the 'I'm stealing the Hero' types. (For one thing GM was Miju's brother!)
Think if YS was the bitchy and cold fiancee, who tried to keep KS/JJ apart, while DA was the best friend who secretly pined for JJ? Yawn! I like the way the writer made them into two separate OTPs.
Or if Hye Young tried to take both guys away from Hana? Been there, done that. Instead, Hye Young is a cool and confident woman - and one of my favorite characters.

I love the new trend too - secondary girls with their own lives and OTPs. I notice dramas are a lot more willing to mix it up with pairings in general - see Chuno where heroine basically ended up with secondary guy and Coffee House where secondary girl got the hero!
Your Gloria scenario is what I expected going in and it would have been so boring! Instead we have wonderful friendships and two great OTPs.
I am not big on love triangles/pentangles/whatever in general - it's a worn trope that either is pointless (you know hero and heroine will only want each other) or, in rare instances, where outcome is uncertain, makes me nervous. I much prefer two OTPs route, or even if not, a sane secondary girl.
I love HY in Someday. She was probably the sanest, most mature of the characters.

YESSSS, after watching dramas for years, i realised that i am not big fan of love triangles. it is pointless as you said. you end up liking one of the guys or girls more and then if it did not work out for your favourite OTP, you will feel angry and miserable. and it's no guarantee that you always fall for the main OTP of the drama ( ... )

Two OTPs are best, that way nobody gets left out.
