China - why are your dramas so awesome? A trio to fuel my obsession

Oct 24, 2010 23:32

1. A hugely epic adapation of the Chinese classic The Water Margin is coming out later this year/early 2011. I am not familiar with the source book, but the trailer makes it look part-wuxia and part-Lord of the Rings. And how could anyone go wrong with that?

Half an hour subbed trailer of awesomeness )

fight and love with a terracotta warrior, youtube2, sword heroes' fate, nicholas tse, the water margin, doramas3

OMO, 2010-2011 is the pinnacle of the drama adaptation of the Chinese 4 Classics (the four most famous books in thousands of years of Chinese literature):

The Water Margin
Dream of the Red Chamber
Three Kingdoms
Journey to the West

I'm glad you've got some new historical dramas to look forward to! Plus, I'm doing a post that's going to be calling your name. Hee.

I am very excited for all 4 and hope they will have subs. Please please please drama gods!

Not as excited as I am for Terracotta Warrior because I am a little unhealthily obsessed about it already.

Oooh, now I am curious about the post.

Btw, saw your post on trailers for Secret Garden and eeeeeek - the vibe is not really my thing. You know me, all for epic and angsty :)

I was stoked by these 4 since in production: and was looking forward 2 water margin the most.

three kingdoms: easily best Cdrama last yr, I'm nowhere near done w/ the 95 eps. It's great 2 see the best of the lesser known for us, classically trained C thespians at work. The CaoCao is AMAZING!

journey to the west: horrid, horrid CG, and much overused. producer ZJZ always messes w/ my sanity.

Red Chamber is interesting, I'm intrigued by the weird art direction, it's very 'Chinese goth' if there's such. I like the air of doom the cinematography and score created, befitting the novel which I'm ambivalent w/ and the romance never grips me. Needless to say it's a general big hate 4 lovers of the classic itself.

I plan to get to Three Kingdoms - need to see if it has subs. Journey to the West is not something I can really see as liveaction anyway Saiyuki will always be my JttW, which is blasphemy, I know.

I have not been able to find Red Chamber with subs anywhere yet, alas.

Water Margin looks amazing, at least if the trailer is anything to go by. Any idea when it's coming out? I couldn't find any info.

I can feel myself getting sucked in deeper and deeper into the irresistable monster that is period/wuxia cdramas and it's horrid because subs are so hard to find (I don't even know if my new obsession, Terraotta Warrior, will have subs). Time to learn Mandarin!

LOL Nic Tse and Charlene Choi again? I still remember the hilarious mess that was A Chinese Tall Story.

I saw her in Calling for Love and she was atrocious. OTOH, I liked the Twins' Effect movie and, tbh, as long as the drama gives me pretty pretty Nic Tse fighting things, I don't even care what CC does.

Luckily no one watches anything from the Twins and expects singing or acting talent, and hey, maybe we'll get lucky and she won't get too many lines since she's supposed to be a "gentle and soft beauty."

In HK, most people's reactions to Nic Tse and anything he does used to be an amused "LOL", but I think age agrees with him and he really doesn't seem that bad anymore. And I don't really think anyone cares as long as he looks good :P

I don't think he's a great actor or anything but he sure looks great wielding that sword :P

Those dramas seem to be indeed epic... BUT it's also those kind of tales where everybody is going to die..........specially the good ones!

Emma, frustrated.

(Hu Ge, HU GE, HUUUUUUGEEEEEEE............ Such a beautifuuuul guy! Why is he Chinese, why am I NOT Chinese? Why don't we live next door from each other, WHYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!) I think he is my favorite actor right now... To bad he's doing mostly sad ending dramas... But he is a great singer too. And he DOESN'T die at the end of the songs!
