I am so sorry, Kim Hyun Joong, but Joe Cheng will always be my ideal Naoki.
Ahem.
Anyway.
Thanks the the wonderful
ockoala, I was made aware of Joe Cheng's new drama, That Love Comes, costarring Le Fei Er.
Now, I am an unabashed Joe Cheng fangirl. It's hard not to become one after ISWAK and TKA. But, let's face it, Joe's choices of roles have been, like his buddy Mike He's, rather uneven. Have you tried sitting through Love or Bread or Summer x Summer (the latter has been voted by yours truly as the worst drama she has ever seen). So, despite
ockoala's enthusiastic
post, I approached TLC with a degree of trepidation.
I have just finished the first episode (first four eps are out, and three are subbed so far on viikii) and am so glad to report - Ockoala was right and my trepidations were groundless. TLC is lovely - it has a vibe of a mellow kdrama mixed with the freshness and emotional immediacy of a twdrama. Think of a cross between Wish to See You Again, Soulmate and Autumn's Concerto, with a bit of Starlit thrown in.
The story is pretty simple and has been told about a million times before, but it's the way it's told that counts. Ye Zi, our heroine, is a small-town girl earning money in the big city. Her paths cross with Xia Tian, a big time photographer dissatisfied with his life, and the story goes from there. It's lovely and romantic and gorgeous and just - I love.

Despite the fact that this LJ is 90% kdramaland, twdramas (and by extension cdramas) will always speak to me the way no other dramas do. They were, after all, my gateway and my first love. And you never forget your first, do you?
ETA: You know, maybe more twdrama idols should go Mainland. I haven't liked anything of Mike He's in years anywhere near as much as I did what I saw of Infernal Lover.
