Can I ask what is the Forbidden Love you speak of? I tried to search your tags but couldn't find one for it. Prey/Hunter romance sounds so good and angsty.
I haven't watched MGIAG but I read the recaps at dramabeans. Like you, I would have been interested in a Gumiho/Hunter romance. The main couple doesn't appeal to me at all. The only thing that could make me watch this drama is if there's a credible love triangle. But the Hong sisters never really write real love triangle. It's mostly heroine madly in love with hero and secondary guy crying quietly in his corner because heroine doesn't even see him and doing absolutely nothing convincing to remedy the situation.
Sorry, Forbidden Love was also known as Nine-Tailed Fox and that's the tag I sue so as not to confuse it with a jdrama. (There is one in this post). Have the delicious closing credits:
I loved Hong Gil Dong so but ever after, the Hong Sisters seem to be slipping more and more.
Thanks! I'm off to check the credits and the Nine-Tailed Fox tag then.
I must confess that I loved You're Beautiful so much that I bought the ultra limited Director's Cut edition with 2 hours of new footage. *pets precious dvd set* I might possibly like it more than Hong Gil Dong although in a different way. It's as fresh as a lemon and doesn't make me cry buckets of tears like HGD did.
So my rating for the "Hong Dramas" would be as follow:
*sort of tie between You're beautiful, Hong Gil Dong and My Girl which I could write this way instead: MG < HGD < YAB
So, unlike you, my experience with the Hong sisters is that they're getting better. I didn't like Delightful Girl (wanted to throw the hero out of a window) but it went uphill from there, until MGIAG that is.
Oh, I loved Mongryong so much! He was kinda a slacker in the beginning but he grew up so awesome. My rating would be: HGD. My Girl, DGCH, then a big big cap and Fantasy Couple and a big big gap again then YAB
I think, as time goes on, romcoms become less and less my thing.
I think this is me too. I still enjoy them, but they have to be exceptional in some way -- great female characters, a fresh take on romance, etc -- for me to go really nuts like I used to.
Romcoms are my guilty pleasure. I can't handle serious weepy drama like, let's say, Cinderella Sister or Under The Midnight Sun. I'm really a very chipper and cheerful person, watching angsty dramatic melodramas just puts me in a depressed mood. It doesn't feel that great lol.
I find that the gumiho couple's interactions are cute but what's keeping my attention is the love story between the gumiho and the hunter. The hunter is major eyecandy! He makes my heart flutter :)
