My guilty confession - I believe So Ji Sub is a zombie

Jul 28, 2010 23:04

OK, I cannot hold it in any longer.

Does anyone else think So Ji Sub has dead eyes? Like - really really dead, zombie-level freaky dead eyes?

I admit he has a nice body and his face is just fine, but the creepy creepy eyes really ruin it for me. They are always dead. I don't just mean in things where he is doing a bad job (the atrocious RN1, or ( Read more... )

Nope, you aren't alone. I often look at actors' and their facial/eye expressions while watching a drama or film and I've actually noticed several people have dead eyes. SJS's eyes are often expressionless; sometimes there are expressions in his eyes, but mostly his eyes are dead.

I've notice Yampi has dead eyes too - bit like a fish.

Oh, yes, I think exactly that about Yamapi too - which is why I can never fangirl him no matter how buff he gets.

I was thinking about the eyes business today because I was watching Bad Guy today and there is a scene where both Kim Nam Gil and Kim Jae Wook had to act with everything except their eyes covered and it worked.

I agree, as much as I like Yamapi I can never fan girl him because of the eyes.

agree about So Ji Sub 110%... but well I think I only saw him in 1000 years of love and that was enough so I swore that I won't touch any drama which has SJS in it... sry klala land I won't do it... in 1000yol I was fangirling Kim Nam Jin who really can't play even he looks like he is the supermodel of the year ( ... )

I've only seen him in about half an hour of Sophie's Revenge (a Chinese romcom that wasn't very good-for me, at least-but has boggleworthy casting) but would agree based on that. Though, his character was basically limited to "douchey but pretty ex boyfriend who dumped vengeful Zhang Ziyi for evil actress Fan Bing Bing," (add in "And Zhang Ziyi teams up with Fan Bing Bing's vengeful ex, Peter Ho, to wreak havoc on them" and you'll understand the bobbling at the cast) so I feel that isn't a suitable basis for judging.

Heh, I actually liked Sophie's Revenge, but I watched that on a plane screen so that could have been jetlag :P

I thought the cast was insane and kept expecting ZZ and FBB to start swordfighting.

OMG finally someone that agrees with me!! Because I was going to post after watching MISA (which is the one good acting job I've seen him do) how he seems to me to be an utterly expressionless actor - he acts with his body and his voice, yeah, but in EVERY SINGLE one of his dramas that I've seen, he walks around the entire drama looking...blank. Which passes as angsting/brooding for a while(and have you noticed he always gets cast in roles which require excessive brooding? MISA, Cain and Abel, etc) but after a while you start to realize there's just nothing there. I didn't like him in Cain and Abel and while I think MISA was the one role he was actually made for, it also finally made me admit that I really dislike him as an actor (good looks notwithstanding, because wow, the man is fine)

Yes, yes, yes - and I totally do not get why I never see this mentioned - I thought I was going crazy because I was the only one going "but...but...he's expressionless with dead eyes" when everyone around me was going on and on what a brilliant actor he is.

I keep wondering if he's like that in rl - because looking permanently stoned is not good.

Thank god someone else thinks so too!

I never understood the fan base of so ji sub, i dont care for his acting or his body and like you, the eyes just freak me up too much. half the time he looks asleep and the other half, like a zombie as you've described.

Japanese actor, Kaname Jun is another one. My sis and i call it the 'dead-fish-eye syndrome'! :)

Hmmm, I don't think I've seen Kaname Jun in anything.

But yes, dead eyes are horrid. Yamapi has them, too.
