I'm 12 eps into A Love to Kill, and it got me thinking about my personal feelings on female characters in dramas/anything. I don't have to have a strong heroine - dramas have taught me I'm quite happy to see sweet, quirky or crazy female characters, but I do need to find her relatable. As long as I can put myself in her shoes and understand why she makes the decisions she does I'm a-okay with almost any type of female character, and I will forgive a lot.
I haven't watched any of the Barbie drama yet (do we know the endgame? I've only been skimming posts about it so I don't know who she ends up with) but from your description of her past issues her current actions make sense, so I don't get the hate either! Fans always seem more forgiving of male characters and it makes me angry that female characters aren't treated with the same respect and consideration just because fans don't want to jump them. :/
I kind of want to watch Mars again now, but my copy has such terrible bright green subtitles that I can't bear to look at them. Ah well
Yes, we do - I know who she ends up with and what happens - I can spoil you if you like :)
Her actions totally made sense to me. Mind you, what she did was deliberately inflict as much damage as she could but she was 17, her parents had just died, she blamed her bf, and wanted to lash out. Pretty understandable IMO.
Yay episode 6 was so full of cute and shippy moments. :3
You know, between this and Return of the Condor Heroes, I am beginning to wonder if Huang Xiaoming is specializing in playing people with horrific childhoods. ^ You know, you have a good point there. lol. Who knows what happened to his parents in Shanghai Bund, but they're clearly not around either. And in An Xiang/Dark Fragrance, his dad was offed by some enemy of the family or something. (I think his mom died earlier, but I can't really remember.) Though he had a decent childhood in Royal Tramp, I think... well, as decent as you can get growing up in a brothel.
mmmmmmmm. I think I need to pick this up again. There's enough Luo Xi/Xiao Mo shipper scenes to tempt me.
he reminds me of my favorite damaged bad boys of twdrama does Luo Xi show any hints of humanity/goodness/vulnerability for more than a minute though?(skipped above picspam) Because I LOVE all your list of guys as you know, but the thing about them is that they only did minor cruel things, they never did anything really horrible and when push came to shove they were always always there for heroine and did the right thing. Whereas Luo Xi seemed to be bad through and through except for his insane love for heroine. I think what I'm trying to say is - all those other guys, if they saw someone hurt or wounded or about to be hurt, they'd go sailing in and rescue them because underneath that tough-boy veneer they're essentially kind people. I don't think Luo Xi would do that unless is was Xiao Mo herself. And I find it hard to root for a hero who's all bad with one good spot. I can forgive it as long as I believe that he actually
( ... )
Luo Xi or Ou Chen? Because I don't think LX ever did anything bad to anyone (other than some lashing out at that girl in high school). Ou Chen did plenty of horrid things but we do see him grow out of it and redeem himself, in general, not just with Xiamo.
Also - I fail to see anyone frothing at the mouth at all the questionable things the two male heroes of this do
I do!! At the moment, I am very cross with both of them (plus with "THe Outsiders" guy as well, for equal measure).
But yep, I have to slide my browser window so I don't see the viiikii comments , one of the things I dislike about viikii. And some really spiteful comments there, and some I can't un-remember once I saw them).
You can turn off viikii comments - there is a button on top right of screen.
Did you watch ep 7? I WANT TO MURDER OU CHEN'S FAMILY + BUTLER REALLY REALLY BADLY. I mean, seriously, they are insane - they basically locked up OC's Mom, who was of age and free to do whatever she wanted, so she wouldn't go to her bf because he was unsuitable, they wouldn't let her see her baby either. When she killed herself, clearly butler didn't realize that the lesson for him is to stop manipulating people - instead he suggested hiring fake parents for Ou Chen (!!!!!) and then some random workers from the crop were blackmailed into being those parents - they totally didn't want to do it, either, no wonder they were horrible parents to him growing up. And the butler keeps doing all of that stuff - hiring him a gf who lies to him they've been dating for years, orchestrating all these bad things for Xiamo etc etc. I mean - WHY
( ... )
No, I haven't! The work has been mad and I had no even one minute to watch! I am going to as soon as I get home, though. :D
OMPH! I mean? And OC will end up forgiving the butler? Clearly, they have big forgiving hearts in Taiwan. Have you read the new chapters , though??? I must say, I only got fully invested into OC/Xiamo after reading them. He actually felt SORRY for everything and asked her brother's forgiveness!
PS2: I re-watched "Easy Fortune..", viikii-less. OMPH! How could I have thought that the main guy is ugly???????? Also - all the hot kisses in bed and all such things.
Re: Easy Fortune. Heeeeee. *raises fist in triumph*
Yes, I read the latest chapters - everyone is in such total emo land! Btw, the last chapter out (9 I think) was the first time I was irritated with LX - seriously, you are told she only married OC for her brother's sake - yet you have a freak out when you see she is solicitous over the guy after major surgery. I am also totally shipping LX with that girl - Shen Qiang, I think her name is? Talk about unconditional...
