Good picks. Love a bit of Bridget Jones and my last rewatch of the BBC mini was a delight (best sick days in ever!). The 2nd Bridget Jones diary is a bit all over the place but the scene where she interviews Colin Firth? Cringetastically hilarious. The first one is maybe my favourite comedic pick-me-up novel.
Watching the BBC mini brings back my high school days (yes, am old). I was so obsessed with it! My whole family was, actually.
The second BJD isn't as good as the first, agreed, but I do love it and the first is one of the few books where I literally laugh out loud. Plus, honestly, I so recognize myself in it - who hasn't done the half-drunken 'who needs men, they suck, pointless, omg I want a guy' rant now and then? Heeee.
If your looking for a quality romantic costume drama try and watch North & South (if you haven't seen that one allready) the one with Richard Armitage, not the American one XD
Armitage is pretty smoldering in that one... Ah the voice it melts meee!
THANK YOU! I hated this series but everyone else LOVED it! Even the critics who can't stand ANY of the dramas that ITV put out! I don't even know why I watched the show to the end - probably a masochistic tendancy. And I'm not even a Jane Austen purist - I could appreciate the Keira Knightly P&P and see what they were trying to achieve but good God I hated Lost in Austen. They clearly just wanted to present the opposite of the characters without thinking about the message of the books or staying true to the characters.
You're not the only one who hated it. I liked a couple of things but mostly I was meh about it. Go check out imdb - lots of people complaining there ;)
Lost in Austen - well, at least Darcy wasn't a vampire in this one!annacronismJune 21 2010, 22:56:56 UTC
Hi, mousie. Now, girl, you have touched on a subject near and dear to My heart. I am crazy, crazy, crazy about the Firth/Ehle version or P&P. Colin Firth is, to me, the definitive Darcy. Dreamy, too!!! And Ms. Ehle is so spunky in the mini I would love having her for a sister or even a best friend. What fun. I confess I watch that one at least once a month just for the pure pleasure of seeing the terrific screen chemistry between Darcy and Miss Elizabeth. (Lucky girl, especially at the end.) Later, hon. A.
You have done a brave service for us all. You confirmed what I suspected. Despite the good reviews, this was nothing but a bad Mary Sue fanfic brought to life. But then it never fails to surprise me how many women owe their writing careers to churning out Jane Austen fanfic. It's a little sad actually.
