I dunno what to do!!! I haven't seen the Japanese yet :( I plan to and it might change my answers.

Just go from the Taiwanese and Korean?

Yup, vote anyway. I haven't seen the 1990s movie and it didn't stop me :P

Actually I only saw about five episodes of Meteor Garden 2 before I was just like, "Bleh, whatever, this is horrible and I don't even care anymore." Whoever wrote that show was way too fond of having everything drag out for much too long.

I think Hana Yori Dango -- the jdrama, had no idea it was ever a movie -- will always be my favorite just because it was the first version and the first drama I ever saw. And Oguri Shun! Oh, Rui...

I never got through MG2 either. Just skipped through the end to watch the cute ending/kissing. Seriously - they had no manga to work from and it showed. BLEH. I like to pretend it didn't exist.

Hanadan was really so lovely. It was my second drama (Meteor Garden was my first :P) I think my favorite Rui would be Vic Zhou's take but mmmmm, Oguri Shun! I came thiiiis close to switching ships at one point.

The only HYD movie I knew about was Hanadan: Final (which got left off the poll!!)

Nothing will ever beat the jdrama for me - MatsuJun was born to play Domyouji.

I knew I forgot something! Makino punching out a bear FTW! We'll just pretend it got rolled into Hanadan jdrama proper :)

It's interesting about Matsujun - physically he's all wrong for Domyouji (both Jerry Yan and Lee Min Ho are tall, physically imposing, and look like they can put some serious hurt on you in a fight. Matsujun - not so much). But he really made the role his own. I started the jdrama going 'who is this hideous short troll playing my beloved Domyouji?" and then before I knew it I was all "OMG ILY and am hyperventilating and love him back, makino, dammit!"

AHAHAHHAHAHAHA! This is almost beats another lj user's description of matsjun's doumyoji as a "swaggering fairy".

I actually kind of loved that he was a small, flamboyantly dressed guy with way too much product in his hair. It made him way more endearing to me than he should have been from the get go (esp cause I had major issues with manga doumyoji who was seriously abusive at times) it also made the temper Doumyoji have seem alot less terrifying, and more hilarious (ditto to his fight scenes, i love that he got into street fights in his FUR COAT). Like an angry little napoleon! Honestly if this was another drama he would have been a gay diva with a jrock band, and makino as his beard. the true love story would have been rui/doumyoji in the end!

Ahahahahahahahaha.

I thought that Jerry Yan's Domyouji was the closest to the manga one in character/looks (LMH was very close in looks, character, not so much by the end) but I really enjoyed Matsujun's more goofy and childlike take on it. It's like he bullies because he's still 5 and hasn't developed filters or empathy or a moral compass and Makino is going to beat into teach him all of those. I have to say he IS too goofy/dim to run a company in any way. I can sort of buy ir from Jerry Yan's version (if he got a bunch of good advisors and Shancai worked on his attention span) and I can certainly buy it from Lee Min Ho's version, but Matsujun? Not so much. Let's hope Makino has a good business head on her shoulders ( ... )

My favorite scenes EVER would be a tie between Jandi's roundkick and Shancai pouring water on the rich bitch's head after refusing to let herself be humiliated. Oh oh oh, and the sunlit kiss in HYD. One of my favorites from any drama.

I loooove the sunlit kiss at the end of Hanadan. I think I reverted to being 17 myself at that moment (not as much as I love the memory-coming-back bit though - that is my n1 favorite moment from Hanadan jdrama *swoon*).

Shancai pouring water on the rich bitch's head after refusing to let herself be humiliated.

Bwah! Love that part! Love her telling the gang of guys all beating down on her to hit more.

Everything from the plane-chasing scene was pinnacle Hanadan for me. How great was Makino's love confession? "Yes, I love you, the stupid, idiotic Doumyoiji -- " And the EXPRESSION ON HIS FACE and the HUG and and and. Just. Gibbering fangirl love.

OMG her confession was so her. She basically insulted him for the entirety of it! :) And yes - his face! Because he totally asks her whether she's come to tell him she loves him but when you see his face when she basically says yes, you can tell that he never believed or expected that she would actually confess and the way he looks at her as if he could never dare hope she'd say it but here she is...OK, NEED REWATCH NOW.

You know, I came to hanadan S1 after it ended but the only time I was ever rabid and ridiculous and rawing and fangirling the way I was, waking up at 7am to watch eps, was with hanadans2.

I couldn't choose between the TW and Jdrama version, as per usual and as you can see by my answers I'm totally split down the middle when it comes to favourite versions of characters and pairings etc. Weirdly enough, I like the Jdrama Domyouji and Makino versions slightly better than the Taiwanese versions but prefer the OTP in the TWdrama because you get all the awesome manga angst and drama.

And what I've realized from all this is that I really need a Meteor Garden re-watch.

Yes, it was really hard for me to pick btw jdrama and twdrama but ultimately twdrama won because it owns just a teeny bit more of my heart (I enjoyed the kdrama but it was flawed in comparison).

MG really did hit it out of the park with the angst, didn't it? MMMMMM. So much MMMMM.
