Thank you all for the awesome 1980s recs.

I shall start my 1980s nostalgic wallow (it really is the decade of my childhood - either in the Soviet Union, with Soviet movies and imported foreign ones, or when we moved to the USA in 1991 and watched 1980s movies on TV and that is, in part, how I learned English).

An Officer and a Gentleman - oh god, one of the eipitomes of the 80's films. My, this takes me back..... R. Gere was so hot. His acting range ain't too wide but this role fits him like a glove. The music! Darn, now I've got Up Where We Belong playing through my head. Thanks a bunch. ;P

Coctail is soooooo cheesy but it's vintage Tom Cruise - when he was still sane.

Can't remember Mannequin or Endless Love at all. Might be I never saw them.

i am so with you on Coming to America. i absolutely adore that movie -- the only Eddie Murphy movie i like -- and i will leave it on and watch it whenever i come across a rerun. i didn't have the added bonus of ever living in Queens, but darn, that movie is adorable.

and someone else who has not seen an Officer and A Gentleman! though i don't have any real desire to see it -- too much other stuff on the "to see" list!

forgot to mention it on your last entry but Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken is utterly lovely and I think you'll enjoy it.

Coming to America.

Classic! Eddie at his best.

He sure has fallen in recent years though. Sad.
