First off - I was reading Simon R. Green's Drood books on the flight and I am so in love with them. I am on the second one. I haven't crushed so hard on a series in a very long time

That's weird. I just started reading Man with the Golden Torc yesterday. You should try the Nightside series by Simon R. Green. Its a blend of hardboiled detective story and horror/supernatural.
