Oh yeah, the run up to the civil war saw plenty of name-calling and even blows exchanged. But as far as I have heard, heckling a President during the formal occasion of a speech to a joint session...that's a first.
I was amused at how shocked Nancy Pelosi looked. That was such a brief outburst, I didn't see it as too much, the man was obviously frustrated. It seems they can occasionally boo and hiss but using words is frowned upon.
The Taiwanese parliament always seems be descend into slanging matches with fisticuffs thrown in for good measure! it would be brilliant entertainment if it wasnt so embarrassing! and i'm not even from taiwan!
on the other hand, every wednesday, Prime Minister's Questions, are always good for a laugh, especially when there are particularly contentious topics up for discussion. It never fails to amuse when the speakers go off-the-cuff, show up anyone with less than rapier-like wit (gordon brown, i'm looking at you!) and generally tear into each other, all with utmost civility and politeness!
