You know, even though I get the reading (as opposed to my usual head scratching) even on my first, unspoiled viewing I wasn't ever able to see Chae-ohk as being in love with Sung-Baek so much as in love with the freedom he represented.
Ultimately, despite my own occasional (I totally vaccilate on it) tendency to ship her with Sung-Baek, if I had to pick who she loved, it would be Hwangbo Yoon. But that's the thing - I think it was Yoon, but I am never 100% sure. I am sure she loved him madly, but whether romantically she loved him or SB (and gave up on Yoon as impossibility and viewed him in every way but romantic) I am never 100% sure.
I do think she was too damaged to have a healthy loving relationship with anyone, in that society.

Which is kind of a large part of why she's my favorite drama character ever. It's extremely rare for that kind of damage to be portrayed in a way that convinced me.

I loved when Bin hugs her with the handcuffs. So sexy and angsty. Ugh.
